The plumber carefully sawed and removed by jack hammer only the exterior layer of brick and some of the center structure of brick, but did not alter or damage the innermost brick (i.e. the house interior). After the plumber completed his work there was a gap on the exterior of 1.5 bricks width and 5 bricks height.
