"House has a brick street-facing wall. Kitchen drain needed repair, the pipe was embedded inside the brick wall, and the plumber went through the exterior of the wall. The plumber carefully sawed and removed by jack hammer only the exterior layer of brick and some of the center structure of brick, but did not alter or damage the innermost brick (i.e. the house interior). After the plumber completed his work there was a gap on the exterior of 1.5 bricks width and 5 bricks height.
Checked Angie's List to get best affordable masonry firm. Verdugo was at the top. Verdugo came out for an estimate within 24 hours. I showed him some spare brick of similar dimension and I suggested he could use that. He said, No, what you need is slump brick (distinctive rounded outer surface), and he'd have to find and bring some special. Made sense to me. I asked him to cut just enough brick cut to fill in the hole. He said, No, what you want is to replace any half-remaining bricks or anything that had been modified by the plumber. I said yes to that. The job would require a lot of careful cuts and cutouts of replacement exterior brick while leaving a gap in the replacement brick to accommodate the newly repaired plumbing. So, careful and precise work.
The next day he showed up with one extra crew. They laid down covering materials for their cement mixing; they needed a power cord; they took barely a 10 or fifteen minute break; they were done inside 4 or 5 hours. The final product looked perfectly integrated into the brick wall from a structure and texture standpoint. Once it is painted, which the rest of the brick wall is, the repair should be invisible. A tiny bit of cement fell onto the xeriscape crushed rock, no big deal. The work itself was flawless.

"I had a long distance move from Miami to Orlando and Moving APT did a phenomenal job. I opted in for the full packing service so they literally packed EVERYTHING, disassembled, loaded it, drove it, then unloaded and reassembled it at my new home. I did not have to move a single item aside from my own car. The crew was extremely helpful, professional and punctual and they had extremely competitive pricing. 5 star experience"

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
