"Very pleased with Skyline. Arrived promptly, did a thorough job- complete with massive cleanup. Skyline even found the perfect tree for me. Skyline advised me how to prepare soil for a future tree I will hire them to place, and how to care for the new tree they planted this time. Would definitely recommend."

"It is with pleasure that I recommend Trees R Us Tree Service. They are professional, dependable, and take the time to assess the job before sending their crew. I had 3 large trees that needed to be pruned. The crew was well organized, efficient, and did a beautiful job with my trees. They meticulously cleaned up the cuttings and left everything beautiful! I would highly recommend them!"

"We are quite satisfied with the job in all respects.  Jose was the most prompt in returning my calls.  He was professional and friendly and met me at the job site the same day.  The job was accomplished to my satisfaction only two days later.  The other providers I had contacted -- including those with an Angie's List "A" rating -- acted like I was doing them a favor by asking to hire their services.  Jose made me feel more like a customer.  I will hire this service again and highly recommend them.

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

While the trees in your backyard are good for the environment and look beautiful, they could present a danger to your home under the wrong circumstances. This task is typically beyond the capabilities of the average homeowner due to its dangerous nature, so it’s best to leave this task to a professional. In some cities, it’s even illegal to remove a tree yourself.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.

You can use a felling ax to chop down a tree by following the same prep and steps as a chainsaw, but be prepared to use some muscle. For trees bigger than 7 inches in diameter, it can take some time and serious strength to cut down a tree using just an ax.
