Paint comes in a variety of finishes. In most cases, a satin or semi-gloss sheen is a safe bet because it’s easy to wipe down and clean, while hiding scuffs and scratches. Soft and light colors are more common in bathrooms than dark colors, partially because they create a larger sense of space. Clean eggshell paint walls or other neutrals like beige and gray work. Lighter shades of blue and green are also popular bathroom colors. If you want to incorporate dark, bold colors, use them as accents in small places rather than on the entire bathroom.

For larger areas, like painting walls, a roller is the best option for applying eggshell paint. Rollers are made to hold more paint and spread it evenly and efficiently over your wall. A roller will be faster and give you a more even coat than a brush for painting walls and ceilings, and it will avoid the visible texture you’d get from brushstrokes for a clean finish. For smaller areas, like trim, a brush will work so long as you remember to paint with the grain of the wood.
