"During the process of leak testing and even during the estimate process, I thought "wow what a great company, smart intelligent efficient people." As soon as the work started I realized we were in trouble. They use sub contractors who are God awful messy and leave giant piles of trash everywhere they go. The work is sub par to straight trash. All of which you would think NWA restore it would be ready and willing to fix. They had to tear out flooring and redo it. They tore up our trim and weren't even going to fix it until we complained repeatedly. We have had to do several change orders and I firmly believe we will be left to figure out how to get the workmanship we agreed upon elsewhere. The project manager Chris loves to say he'll take a look and then never gets back to you. We have been left in the dark communication wise from the start, unless we reach out with very specific questions. Just all in all the worst experience I have ever had. I wish after mitigation we had parted ways. This process has been more traumatic than the initial flood."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

No, but it’s common that they do. Gravity furnaces weren’t terribly efficient so wrapping either the ductwork in asbestos, the furnace itself, or both, was something done regularly. This allowed the system to retain more heat. At the time, this greatly enhanced the efficiency of the furnaces but it wasn’t until later that we became aware of just how carcinogenic and dangerous asbestos could be.

To seal off, or encapsulate, asbestos-containing materials in your home, you’ll need to utilize a sealant specifically designed for asbestos encapsulation. These sealants bind with asbestos fibers to keep them from spreading throughout the air and causing bodily harm. In many cases, these sealants can be simply painted on, but you’ll need to wear a protective body suit as well as an asbestos-rated respirator to interact with these materials safely.

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

In the 1980s, the use of asbestos in house siding materials underwent a significant decline, ultimately being phased out by the mid-1980s to early 1990s. This change was largely due to a growing awareness of the severe health risks associated with asbestos exposure, particularly its link to lung diseases and cancers. With increased public concern and regulatory agency involvement, building codes and regulations were updated to restrict the use of asbestos in construction materials.

Although the use of asbestos has declined since the 1980s, it remains in several different types of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire retardant. Typically, asbestos can be found in materials such as ceiling and floor tiles, heat-resistant fabrics and coatings, and roof shingles. You may also find asbestos in textured paint and patching compounds.
