"I was looking for someone to come re-install a toilet that we installed ourselves (badly) because it was letting not-so-great smells into the house. Clint was the first plumber to respond to me with a fair price. He came to do the work within an hour and did an excellent job! I'm definitely keeping his number for future plumbing needs."

"Our plastic insert broke so we needed it fixed. Ted was amazing! He knew exactly what needed to be done and was $2k less than the competition. Worked quickly even through hard weather conditions. The shower looks amazing now and couldn’t ask for anything better! Highly recommend!!!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

If you have a huge leak like a burst pipe, it’s an emergency, and you should call a plumber immediately. Burst pipe repair costs range between $150 and $5,000, depending on the location of the pipe and the severity of the leak.

On the other hand, more minor leaks can go undetected for a while, which can cause water damage to your cabinets, walls, flooring, or ceiling. So while you don’t need to call it an emergency, you should still worry about a small leak. Get a temporary pipe leak solution in place while you wait for a plumber.

You’ll only need to replace your sink’s pipes when you start to notice signs of wear like corrosion or leaking. Most pipes last somewhere between 20 and 100 years, depending on the material. Copper and cast iron can last up to 100 years. Galvanized steel and brass generally have a 50-year lifespan. PVC pipes last 25 to 40 years.

The key difference between a standard spigot (or regular hose bib) and a frost-free hose bib is its design to prevent freezing and pipe bursting during cold weather. A standard spigot is a basic outdoor faucet. In contrast, a frost-free hose bib has a longer stem that extends into the heated interior of the house, placing the shut-off valve inside where it's protected from freezing temperatures. This design, often combined with a downward-sloping supply pipe, ensures water drains out of the faucet body when turned off, preventing ice formation. This allows you to leave the water supply on year-round without the risk of pipe damage, making it a valuable choice for regions with harsh winters.

Tipping is not required when hiring plumbing professionals. The rate provided in your plumbing quote is intended to cover all of the labor required to get the job done. However, you may consider tipping any extra hands hired to help with cleanup, haul away old fixtures, or repair drywall that was affected by the project.

Frozen pipes can negatively affect your hot water heater. If the pipes leading to or from your hot water heater freeze and burst, as can happen with frozen pipes, your water heater can be seriously damaged and even require replacement. In less extreme cases, frozen pipes can compromise or cut off your hot water supply.
