"Interior repairs and replacements included floors, doors, walls, and kitchen cabinets. Although the work began slowly with some delays, the TMI team met our expectations and ensured satisfaction. The Project Manager updated me regularly, the team's final cleaning was thorough, and all invoices were reviewed in detail. Everyone was courteous and professional throughout."

"Dan was able to come out immediately. He was at my door thirty minutes after i called him. We had water accumulating in the basement, and i assumed it was a water proofing issue. The first company I called out said it was not a free standing water issue that it was a plumbing issue. I called a plumber out and paid nearly $500 to have cameras sent down the water pipes, and they determent that it was not a plumbing issue. I set up contractors to open the walls up, because we still did not have a cause. Dan was able to come out before we opened walls, and within four minutes diagnosed the problem as a air conditioning condensations line. He was able to give me a contact to an air-conditioning company. i wish i would of called Dan first. I would have saved a lot of time and money! Even though my problem wasn't basement flooding issue, he was able to point me in the right direction and recommend pros."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.
