It is not necessary to tip piano movers, and workers from reputable companies generally won’t expect tips. However, if you’re pleased with the service and the movers are friendly and respectful, tipping can show your appreciation for how well the crew cared for what is likely a very expensive instrument. Tipping between $20 and $40 per mover is about average.

The key is to load the heaviest and largest items first, including mattresses, bed frames, large couches, dining room tables, chairs, and more. You want to pack the majority of the heavy items into the deepest part of the moving truck to balance the weight of your belongings. Consider loading lighter and smaller objects and boxes last.

It is certainly possible to move a piano without hiring movers, but it’s not recommended. Not only will you need at least four people to lift and maneuver the piano, but getting it around tight corners and down flights of stairs might not be possible without the help of movers. Plus, pianos are exceptionally heavy and bulky, which means you and any helping hands are at risk of injury, as well as an increased risk of damaging your piano. Ultimately, it’s always worth it to call in a professional piano mover.

Depending on your safe’s size and weight, we don’t recommend moving the safe without hiring professional movers. A moving service will have the equipment and skills necessary to move this heavy, bulk item safely. If you insist on moving it yourself, enlist the help of a few friends to help you move the gun safe with a furniture dolly.

It is helpful for safety reasons to pack knives in their own box and clearly label them. This way, movers can take extra caution when moving these boxes and pack them in the moving truck accordingly. Plus, it will remind you to use extra caution when unpacking that box in your new kitchen.
