"Had tinted/mirrored window film installed. They were willing to work with my specific needs and did a good job. They were responsive when had questions and very helpful during the whole process. Just be sure to clean your house and windows really well beforehand, so no dirt gets trapped between the film and window."

"Acton Home Solutions was hired after I had started the project with other construction companies. I was left with a giant mess. Acton fixed the mess, then guided me and supported me on my decisions for the remodel project. The work was excellent. My husband and I are thrilled with the work. We have also gotten many compliments on the remodel. I would gladly refer this company to my friends and family."

Windows questions, answered by experts

The differences between a bay window versus a bow window involve the number of individual windows and the angle at which both windows extend from the home. A bow window has four to six individual windows that form a curve outside the exterior wall. A bay window usually has two small windows on the edges that angle outward from the exterior wall and a large window in the middle that’s parallel to the home’s exterior wall.

Yes, you can fix windows without replacing them. However, this will depend on the severity of the issue and what your needs are. Minor water damage, broken glass, damaged casing, and worn caulking are usually easy repairs. But if there is excessive damage, the windows are constantly foggy, or the windows are very old, it’s best to consider replacing them. Replacement windows cost between $575 and $1,475 per window, or an average of $850 per window.

Depending on the window style and your home's layout, you can install replacement windows from either the inside or the outside. Many installations are done from the inside because it allows for better access and weather protection, but some exterior installs are easier for certain types of siding or trim. The key is choosing the approach that gives you the best access to the frame while keeping the existing structure intact.

Mold on windows forms due to excess moisture from condensation, poor ventilation, or leaks. Cold glass surfaces can attract condensation, especially in winter. High indoor humidity, lack of airflow, or dust accumulation are also contributors. To prevent mold growth, improve ventilation, regularly clean sills, and consider using a dehumidifier or sealing any leaks.

The average cost to repair a window is about $400, with prices typically ranging from $175 to $1,500. The final cost is influenced by several factors, including:

  • Number of Panes: Single-pane repairs average around $200, double-pane repairs range from $200 to $400, and triple-pane repairs can cost $600 to $1,100.

  • Type of Repair: Minor fixes for a track, seal, or sash are more affordable than repairs for broken glass or window frames, which are typically the most expensive.

  • Window Details: The size, type, and material of the window affect the price.

  • Accessibility: Windows on upper floors or in hard-to-reach locations may increase labor costs.

  • Other Factors: The extent of the damage, local labor rates, and the need for emergency service will also impact the total cost.

For comparison, a full window replacement can range from $175 to $1,800 or more for high-end materials or large windows like bay or bow windows.
