"Highly recommend Moreno's HVAC & Electric! Our AC was running constantly without cooling the house. He checked it out, found a leak, and recharged the freon. Our unit is 16 years old, so we thought it was probably time to buy a new one or that it would need major repair, but he saved us from a costly purchase. Plus, the price was super reasonable! As always, he was very professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and friendly!"

"R&M's service was amazing! Had a bad experience with the previous company I called out (HC Blake) and these guys were night and day difference. They were professional, intelligent, and able to pinpoint the source of my HVAC problem. I ended up spending $125 whereas HC Blake wanted $380 and it turns out what they wanted to do wouldn't have solved the problem so they would have charged an additional $125/hr just to try to determine the solution. R&M was in and out in less than an hour. Support small business!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A damper motor can last up to 15 years, but it can wear out more quickly than that if you run your HVAC unit a lot. So you might expect a longer life in a colder climate than if you live in a warmer climate.

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

Most HVAC service calls include diagnostic fees, which could include checking on a specific issue you’re experiencing or running through a routine inspection checklist. If you called for a particular problem, the service call will also include an estimate to fix the issue, including materials and labor. Depending on your HVAC technician and the service you requested, you might also get a general inspection of your system components to ensure everything is working as intended.

A 3-ton AC unit is probably too big for a home that’s 1,200 square feet. If you have a 1,200-square-foot home, you likely need a unit that’s somewhere around 1.9 and 2 tons. An AC unit that’s too large will be really inefficient and cost you a lot of extra money on your bills.

If you know how to identify supply and return ducts, you’ll find that only the supply ducts will have dampers. Although your return ducts can have dampers, it’s not common. If you have one return duct that is pulling in too much air, adding a damper to it can help with overall system performance. However, dampers on return ducts are not a necessary addition for most homes.
