"Excellent work ethics for the employees.  Came in found the source of the problem, contacted another company to fix the issue then they replaced all of the AC duct work.  They are a fantastic company and would not hesitate to recommend them.

"The process started out well. Annette Hale's representative came out and appeared knowledgeable about HVAC unit replacement. Our choices were limited because I specified we wanted a Carrier-brand replacement if available. It was. We chose the higher SEER rated unit and the salesman told us it had a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger. Oddly, he did not include those words on the estimate even though there was a place for it. The work started two weeks later. I was phenomenally impressed with the fellas' work ethic and general workmanship on my project. They happily answered my general questions and the entire installation looked great. Kudos to them on a job well done. In preparation of paying the bill, I looked through the paperwork the fellas were going to leave and could not find a mention of what the heat exchanger's warranty was. The fellas could not either. The salesman was called and he ended up being just plain unprofessional when he could not provide the information. I hung up on him and decided to not pay the bill until the heat exchanger issue was resolved. The next morning my wife drove to Annette Hale's business, and the Service Manager easily showed proof of a lifetime warranty before the bill was paid in full. We are very happy with the new unit's performance, and hope to count on Annette Hale's business when/if needed."

"Robert responded immediately to our inquiry for central air repair. He gave a 30 minute window for arriving the next morning, called that morning to confirm his arrival time, and arrived within the window as expected. He patiently explained our A/C problem and provided a breakdown of estimated costs. Will we employ him to actually fix our unit? Because the HVAC company that American Home Shield (AHS) referred to us declines to return our calls after supposedly ordering a part one week ago, we might well bite the bullet, purchase the failed A/C part, and pay Robert to install it (that part is locally in stock and Robert can promptly attend to us). Instead of hoping for relief from AHS (which should cover all but an initial $75 service visit) , we can recover our expense by canceling our AHS contract if they fail to at least partially offset our expenses.."

"

On Monday morning, I found that the A/C was no longer working upstairs. I had to turn off the power, because it seemed to be stuck in heat mode. I filled out an online form with my home warranty company, and I got an e-mail response saying that Alabama Comfort Experts would be contacting me. They called a short while later, and my appointment was set for between 11 AM and 1 PM. I received an e-mail just after 10 AM saying that they were on the way. The technician arrived by 10:30 AM, and he had the problem diagnosed quickly. The thermostat appeared to be working (changing modes, etc.), but it was no longer controlling the unit. He confirmed by pulling the thermostat and testing with the wiring directly. He did not have a thermostat like mine on the truck, but he went straight to the parts house, and had one back and installed in less than an hour. My only charge was the trade call fee on the home warranty. If there was an A+++ for punctuality, I would have given it to Alabama Comfort Experts, and I would definitely call them again for any HVAC work that I need to have done.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, but they don’t feel the same as an AC-cooled room. You’ll feel cool, moist air, opposite from an HVAC system that dries the air as it cools. Ventless units also have less tonnage than alternatives like ductless and central air, which means they aren’t as capable of quickly cooling large spaces or circulating cold air.

The cost to repair an air conditioner averages around $350 to $450, but the price can range from $100 to over $3,000. The final cost depends on the type of air conditioner, the extent of the damage, and the specific parts that need replacement. For example, repairing a window AC unit typically costs between $100 and $250, while central air conditioner repairs can range from $300 to $3,000. A simple fix like replacing a dirty filter might only cost $10 to $50, but a major issue like a broken compressor could cost around $2,000 or more, potentially making it more cost-effective to replace the entire system. Due to the need for specialty tools and handling of refrigerants, repairs more complex than changing a filter are best left to a professional.

Yes, HVAC zoning is generally considered worth the investment by both experts and homeowners. Zoned systems offer significant benefits in convenience, efficiency, and comfort by allowing you to set different temperatures for various rooms or 'zones' in your house. This ability to heat and cool only the spaces you're using leads to energy savings and lower utility bills. Zoned systems are especially effective in multi-level homes that experience temperature fluctuations, but even smaller homes can benefit from the ability to adjust temperatures more quickly. While the up-front installation cost can be high, many find it's a worthwhile long-term investment, particularly for those who plan to stay in their home for a while.

If your AC unit isn’t cooling and you haven’t figured out why, there are a few good reasons to turn it off ASAP. The source of the issue, whether that be leaking refrigerant or a broken compressor, will worsen and cause more damage to the overall unit the longer the machine is allowed to run. When in doubt, shut it down until you or an AC pro can ensure everything is working properly.

Yes, it’s important to turn off your AC sometimes to give it a break and prevent it from freezing up. If your AC runs all the time, your system’s parts will wear down quicker, which may mean that you need to replace it sooner. Plus, using your AC constantly uses more electricity and leads to higher energy bills.
