"They placed cloths throughout the house each day they worked to protect our floors. They removed and replaced everything in our bathroom with expertise. Terracotta tile is a broad term for clay tile that’s been fired in a kiln, and Saltillo tile is a specific type of terracotta tile produced in Saltillo, Mexico. In addition to Saltillo, terracotta tile comes in a range of other shades and styles. You’ll often find it used in buildings throughout Mexico, southern Europe, and the western United States.

For glass tile, you want to use unsanded grout. Sanded grout is a stronger and grittier cement grout that is great for installing tiles with wider gaps and into joints. However, it is susceptible to scratching glass tile and is more difficult to use in thinner gaps. Unsanded grout, while more expensive, is easier to fit between thin gaps and is less harsh on delicate materials, like glass tile.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

You can use sanded or unsanded grout for a shower pan, but sanded grout isn’t the best option for shower walls. For those areas, you’ll want to use unsanded grout, which works well on vertical surfaces and is less likely to slump than sanded grout. Alternatively, you can use epoxy grout for shower walls.
