Customers say: Quick response

"These guys are highly skilled professionals! Ours was a challenging project since our home was built in 1960, but they transformed it. Love the new baseboard touches, they even updated the plumbing connections in the bathroom. They were friendly and diligent - I already have more projects I am planning to use this company for. They cleaned everything up and took debris away as part of their work . Very reasonably priced. Best value I have had so far and I have used Home Advisor before on another house I was selling recently."

"Dan Hill called on Fri. I explained need for repair on entryway deck step. He came out same afternoon, advised approx cost and said he would ensure he had supplies and would call to set up time. He called on Mon, did work quickly and professionally and cost was best of three estimates. I plan to use again and recommend."

Small jobs welcome

"They were punctual precise. There work habits were and clean up was great they also did a couple of extra items that were not discussed with no questions asked. I have other projects pending and hire them again. Great service. I wished they had the tools to start when arrived. After I received my statement I noticed I was billed for the time that they had to return to get the proper tools and for the time a helper was here and did minimal work. Not a happy camper over the billing !!!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

The life expectancy of deck boards varies widely based on the material, climate, and maintenance. Untreated wood boards typically last 10 to 30 years with proper care, while pressure-treated boards can last up to 50 years. Hardwoods generally outlast softwoods. Composite boards also tend to last longer than natural wood. Environmental factors like arid or humid climates can shorten a deck's lifespan. To extend the life of wood decking, it's important to consistently clean and seal it to protect against moisture, UV light, and insects.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.

Pressure-treated decks last 15 to 20 years on average, but with proper maintenance, you could get 40 to 50 years of value from yours. Reseal your deck every one to two years, and replace old or rotted wood as soon as possible to avoid structural damage. Where you live plays a role in the lifespan of your deck. Intense sunlight, rainfall, wind, and hail can reduce the deck’s lifespan.
