You can never have too much vitamin D in your life, amiright?!

Well, actually we looked it up and you can: vitamin D overdoses are a thing…but they're really rare, and they're usually caused by too many supplements, not too much light exposure.

So, here are three ways to make a room even brighter than it is right now and bring on the vitamin D!

1. Remove Screens

If you live in a bug-free zone and you're not worried by a couple of flies, this is an easy way to get more light pouring through those windows. Try it in one room and see how it feels. If you like it, ditch all your screens!

2. Perfectly Place Your Curtain Rods

This is an interior design trick that capitalizes on windowpane exposure. Place your curtain rod 5 inches above your window give yourself 5 inches of rod clearance on each side of the window. This will allow you draw your curtains completely away from the glass, which maximizes your natural light exposure.

Note: If your window has trim, this may be happening automatically!

3. Add a Mirror

You probably have a mirror in your bathroom and bedroom, but you'll get some serious light benefits if you buy a few more!

Mirrors reflect light and open up a room. If you have a window in the room, position the mirror across from it to create the illusion of a second window. If you already have a nice light fixture going, hang the mirror next to the light source.

Important: A mirror placed directly across a light fixture will create a funhouse effect of aggressive light reflection, which is not good at all. Avoid this setup!
