We evaluated several contractors for the construction of a basement bedroom. We found the contractors through Angies List and other sources. We only looked at the highest rated contractors on Angies List. Flash Services came out the clear winner, which was backed up by our experience. The big edge was that Mike Fleshren, who owns the business, is also the one doing the work. He occasionally needs an assistant, but was the one in our house doing construction, drywall, insulation, door installation, window installation, and much more. All the other contractors were only and quot;supervisorsand quot; who hired other people to do the work, and no doubt took a markup. These and quot;other peopleand quot; we would not meet ahead of time and would have no idea of their qualifications. Good craftsmanship is vital to getting a room done right. I have witnessed and heard of tremendous problems with construction workers doing less than stellar work, and a lot of time you only find out about it the hard way. Mike did the work very well and very quickly. He has a thorough knowledge of home construction, and uses it to do the work very efficiently. He is very easy to communicate with and did exactly what we wanted. Other people we talked to did not listen and ignored instructions, even when it came to what we needed in a proposal. He also always explained what he was going to do. His price was in the lower range of the others, and the best price for that quality of the work. The building inspector praised his work, and, when I mentioned how fast Mike was, said and quot;it does go fast when someone knows what they're doing.and quot; Total time to construct the room in an unfinished basement, including framing, drywall, insulation, window, doors, resolving plumbing issues, and rough electrical was just a couple of days when you took out drying times.
