Our GE dishwasher motor had gone bad. We just bought a new house in Takoma Park, MD so it was a disappointment and we weren't looking to invest in another major purchase right away. So Discount Appliance Repair took care of it and made the dishwasher as good as new. There was a slight delay in the delivery of the part but the repair was done the same day it was received and the original assessment/estimate was performed promptly. The call for service goes through a dispatcher who is thorough about communicating between service technician and customer. I recommend them.

We called on Monday and set an appointment for Tues. They did not show up on time - called the company 30 minutes past the window time and was told he would be here within 10-15 minutes (45 minutes late) - no explaination or apology. Arrived and did a trouble shooting that determined the need to replace the motor and provided a price quote. When we agreed and then provided a $55 certificate from the company's Angies List site, we were told that he had already provided his discounted price and could not honor the certificate. The lead technician (there were two techs who came, one possiby an apprentice) initially said he didn't have the right part on his truck and would need to order it, and then decided he actually did have the right part (we retained the product documents and it appears that the part is correct). While moving the dishwasher to be able to service it, they scratched the floor. When that was identified to them, the lead tech made a flimsy excuse and rubbed the scratch and said it would go away. When pressed,he agreed to a further discount (he gave $15). At the end he pulled out a blank work order (he didn't have one completed when he got to the house), had us fill out the customer data in the heading and directed us to sign the document. Sure enough, there was a disclaimer for floor damage. However they made no effort (eg putting a mat or blanket on the floor) to preclude damage. BTW, during his time here (about an hour) he got two additional calls from customers for whom he was late for service appointments. No excuse for lack of care and lack of punctuality. Be assured, they won't be back in this house again. UPDATE: The company mailed us a check for a $50 rebate which almost matches the advertised Angies List discount of $55. As the failure to honor advertised rates was a significant issue in our assessment, we now believe it appropriate to raise the score from the initial D to a C.

Dishwasher started flashing "slow/blocked drain" message on a Saturday morning. I spent most of the morning following the owner manual recommendations to clean air gap, drain hoses, etc. to no avail. Emailed All American from their website estimate page on Sunday. Received phone call Monday morning explaining that they could not provide an over the phone estimate for that issue as there could be numerous causes. Called them back on Monday evening and set up appointment for Wed morning. They called ahead as promised an arrived in the middle of the 2 hour window they had provided. Pete checked several things out and determined the pump had gone bad and because of that, a leak had also started. His estimate was from $300-$400. We decided to replace the washer ($69.95 for the estimate) but were pleased with the promptness and professionalism of the company.

I bought the GE dishwasher from a local appliance store, after installation it ran the first cycle and then this black oily gunk started coming out into the tub of the dishwasher. I contacted the store I bought the dishwasher from and come to find out they don't back up the products they sell and advised me to call GE. After many times of them coming out to repair the dishwasher, it still does not work. I have had numerous repairmen come out and tell me that I should be doing such things as running sink water till it was really hot and then start the dishwasher, clean the inside by running a few cycles with some type of cleaning agent, test our water, and we are about fed up. There are other times when repairmen wouldn t even come out when they said they would from GE. They refuse to replace the dishwasher that never worked. Update as of 2/11/08: 4 months after I first contacted them about the problem, they finally did replace a dishwasher that works.

GE Technicians were sent to our home for a broken dishwasher through our home warranty purchased from Long and Foster. We have had 2 or 3 DIFFERENT technicians out to visit for the SAME ticket/issue for 6 separate visits, going on number 7 tomorrow (over a month and many hours missed from work). There is a profound lack of communication between GE Technicians, their customer service department, and again with the home warranty company. Each visit they order more parts. The next visit those parts don't work. A stack of discarded dishwasher parts, ordered on each separate visit, sit on our countertop as I type. One labeled "good parts" and the other labeled "bad parts." One parts order was over 500 dollars. Amazing further that GE Technicians would not seem to have ANY parts to a standard GE dishwasher product. One GE technician said "I don't know why they build these things this way" about the GE dishwasher! How disappointing, for the technicians hired by GE to not even understand or believe in their own products. This same technician was also confused about his own abilities to speak with the home warranty company, - first saying he would talk to them to get us a new dishwasher, rather than come back for visit #6, then denying that he could communicate with them at all. This is the most unprofessional experience I have ever had with a company, and I am further amazed by how uneducated they are on their own product lines. I am in awe as I share with family, friends, coworkers, and others the most disappointing customer service I have ever encountered.

Two men came. One guy supervised, and the second did the work. The second guy laid his filthy (and I mean filthy) jacket on my kitchen counter. When he put the dishwasher back together, I saw water leaking out from under the cabinet, which he didn't see. He had to re-dismantle and fix at my insistence. He had the foulest language. After they left, I saw that he had put a gouge in the paint finish of the dishwasher, for which I had to call the company back to touch up.

An email was sent to company via Angies list. I also called and spoke to a nice lady, Bonny I believe who scheduled an appointment to repair a GE Cafe dishwasher. I was subsequently contacted by the company to move up the appt to earlier in the day. In the mean time I received an email response via Angies list from the company saying that my dishwasher was difficult to work on and that I should call another GE repairman. Oddly I believe that Bonny was the person I spoke to and replied to the email..I have subsequently hired another company. C grade was for the conflicting responses on the ability to work on a GE dishwasher (replace a water valve) A grade was for the initial quick response to the work request.

Don't deal with these people. In my opinion, they are dishonest and liars to boot. I bought a Big Deal for a large appliance repair for $135. I selected the deal because it included up to 2 service calls, and I anticipated that there might need to be two visits, one to diagnose the problem and one to repair it. The problem I was having was with a four year old GE dishwasher. It has a feature called SmartDispense, which allows you to add a quantity of detergent, which is then dispensed in the proper amount for each cycle. The tech did arrive on time, and said that the problem was that the motor which runs the Smart Dispense function was burned out. He siphoned the backed up detergent out of the dispenser, and then said there was no need to repair the dispenser, since they were unreliable, "nobody is buying them anymore," and the manual dispenser worked fine. I explained that we were selling the house and that we had to have all the appliances working, so even if the part was expensive (about $280) we needed to have the repair done. He said there was no need, since "inspectors never look at that", but I insisted I needed the repair done. I confirmed that the Deal would cover the labor for the installation, and he mumbled that it would. He agreed to order the part. I believe he called back after a few days and said the part would take a week to come, and I said fine. After about two weeks, I called toward the end of the week and was told the part would be available the next Monday, and that the tech would come to install on Tuesday. On Monday, the tech called and said he still could not get the part, that they were not making this kind of machine anymore, that there was a backorder. At this point I called GE myself, and confirmed that the part was indeed easily available, that GE makes parts available for all its products for at least 10 years. It was obvious to me at this point that the company just did not want to have to make the second visit that was included in the Deal. I called Angies List and talked to their complaint department, who said he would talk to the company and either have them call me back or he would call back. I heard nothing for another 3 days, and was getting ready to call Angie's list again, but then the phone rang, it was the tech, and miracle of miracles! He suddenly had the part and wanted to come install it right away! He is supposedly on his way over as I am typing this review. From the sullen tone of his voice when he called, I conclude he is not very happy with me after I complained to Angies List, but I really don't care. I don't have a lot of confidence that the job will be done right, but I don't want to pay for another service call from another company. So if you want to deal with a company which does not return calls, which tries to avoid fulfilling the terms of their deals, which apparently lies to you about the availability of parts, and which advises you to lie on your home sale disclosure form about whether your appliances are working, then these are your guys. Otherwise, pick someone else.
