"Found Machen Brothers on Angie's list.  Called and Jodie Machen came over that afternoon to look at the job and give an estimate.  I had a gently sloping rood over porch that had previously been covered with heated rubber roofing.  The current roof had deteriorated and was beginning to leak.  Another contractr had told me it wasn't pitched enough - Jodie assured me it was and that he could do the job for far less than had been quoted to me.  He contacted my Home Warranty provider, gave them an estimate and all the details, and promised he would be back in touch as soon as weather was good enough to do the work.
Jodie and helper showed up and completed the work in 2 days time.  They matched the shingles with my original roof, flashed the roof with the house siding, gently removed the gutters, then replaced them when complete.  Work was exactly what was estimated, and completed in a timely manner.   I am very satisfied and will use him again!

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.

Venetian plaster is a highly durable wall finish that becomes a rock-like substance once dried, making it last longer than most other wall finishes. Its lifespan can range from decades to centuries, potentially lasting a lifetime. Key factors influencing its longevity include the quality of the initial application, whether it's properly sealed against moisture, and how the wall is maintained and treated (e.g., how often it is touched or bumped). Due to its mineral content, it can also develop a patina over time.

If you want to reduce sound transmission throughout your home, soundproofing drywall is a better choice than standard drywall. However, simply installing soundproofing drywall may not completely block out noise. You’ll get the best results from incorporating it into a larger soundproofing plan that includes proper insulation and framing studs.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.
