"Had to file a claim for new clothes dryer, and repairs on fridge. Foothills Star Appliance came to look at both. Eric was the repairman. He was friendly, answered all my questions, and very professional. I would highly recommend his company."

"Found Machen Brothers on Angie's list.  Called and Jodie Machen came over that afternoon to look at the job and give an estimate.  I had a gently sloping rood over porch that had previously been covered with heated rubber roofing.  The current roof had deteriorated and was beginning to leak.  Another contractr had told me it wasn't pitched enough - Jodie assured me it was and that he could do the job for far less than had been quoted to me.  He contacted my Home Warranty provider, gave them an estimate and all the details, and promised he would be back in touch as soon as weather was good enough to do the work.
Jodie and helper showed up and completed the work in 2 days time.  They matched the shingles with my original roof, flashed the roof with the house siding, gently removed the gutters, then replaced them when complete.  Work was exactly what was estimated, and completed in a timely manner.   I am very satisfied and will use him again!

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Most repairs take 1-3 days, depending on drying times for joint compound and paint touch-ups.

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

Vinegar and bleach are effective options for removing mold from drywall. Vinegar is a better choice if you have a smaller mold issue while bleach is best if you have a larger mold problem. If the area you're cleaning has limited ventilation, using vinegar would be a better option. In that case, you could mix vinegar with baking soda to remove more stubborn mold growth.

Technically speaking, you can use drywall primer over plasters. However, oil-based primers work the most effectively on wall plasters. Meanwhile, water-based primers work just as well with drywalls. Nowadays, there are also universal primers suitable for drywall and plaster. Overall, you will be fine as long as you are using a trustworthy brand.
