"Awesome! Prompt initial contact, within a few minutes of posting on Angi's. James set up a next day appointment and explained he can get the job done the same day. He arrived within the time frame he indicated he was available to start the work. James was pleasant and professional. He explained exactly what needs to be done, not extras. He worked efficiently, communicated effectively, and quickly assessed plumbing problems. At my request he checked areas of concern that were not related to plumbing. He was receptive to varied questions about other projects. He proposed suggestions based on actively listening to what I envisioned for future repairs and remodeling. James appeared nonplussed with all my questions. James's hourly rate is affordable. He explained exactly what needed to be done, not extras, and respected my budget. As an older, single woman, I felt comfortable with James in my home. I did not feel taken advantage of for lacking the knowledge, experience and skills necessary to fix plumbing issues. James (L&S Handyman & Home Services, LLC) offers creative, pragmatic and affordable services."

"The crew worked very efficiently and professionally, and completed the project in two days in cold early January weather, installing wall/ earth anchors and an interior french drain and sump pump. The foreman extensive experience with this type of work was obvious as he adapted to unforeseen conditions very calmly and professionally. Lastly they cleaned up the work sight perfectly including restoring the sod in the lawn. I'm very impressed with the company and their employees."

"This contractor was prompt to come and give us an estim.ate and showed up the next day to begin the work. Because the kitchen floor was so wet it was in danger of collapsing or having one of us go through, he came and began the work immediately. They repaired the water leak and tore up all the wet chipboard. They replaced all the wet floor with plywood Finally they installed my dishwasher and put down our new flooring. They definitely knew what was needed and did the work quickly, completely and bagged up all the trash and removed it for us. This was all done for a very reasonable cost. We will call them for any jobs that come up in the future,"

"Excellent. Diagnosed the problem, taught me something about water heaters, gave two options at good prices, took care of procuring and installing the new heater, got rid of the old one, and brought something else up to code to boot. And they left it spotless - you can't even tell they were there other than the new heater."

French Drains FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.

A clogged sewer line is not typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, though some sewer line issues are covered. For instance, damage related to a fallen tree is usually covered. Though sewer line replacement is not covered in a standard insurance policy, some companies offer add-ons for this purpose. Read the fine print before spending your own money.

An active cleaning agent and a drain snake is the best way to clean a main sewer line. You can purchase a regular or enzyme drain cleaner or make a DIY drain cleaner with baking soda. Use your chosen solution at least once a month or as needed to keep your sewer line clear.

There are a few reasons your snake won’t go down the floor drain. One common reason is a large obstruction in the drain that is causing a blockage. You can remove any debris you see in the drain before trying to snake it. In addition, the snake might not be long enough to reach the clog, or it might be the wrong diameter.
