"Well, the system is great! It took a while to get the system installed due to paper work for grant and bank loan. Finally got system up and running on 10/5/16.  The system provides complete energy for our house and business. And we don't have to pay the electric company, in fact they will be paying us for any overflow production.

If your are interested is installing, you better hurry because the demand is increasing dramatically and the waiting time for installation will take a while.

Brian Brown from Renewable Engineered Systems is our provider. Very easy to work with and they are a local company with a very professional attitude.  His contact phone number is 276-226-0228"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When planning electrical projects in Elkins, consider the region’s heavy snowfall, frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and high humidity, all of which can impact wiring longevity. The mountainous terrain may require longer cable runs and careful grounding. If you live in a historic neighborhood, check for special electrical upgrade requirements. Power outages are common, so surge protection and backup power options are smart additions for reliable service.

Helpful?

Homes in Elkins built before the 1960s, or those with knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, often benefit from electrical upgrades. Frequent breaker trips, reliance on extension cords, or dimming lights signal capacity issues. Signs of moisture in basements, rodent-damaged wires, or missing GFCI outlets are also red flags. Addressing these issues improves safety, energy efficiency, and prepares your home for modern electrical demands.

Helpful?

In Elkins, building a seasonal inspection routine helps prevent electrical issues caused by the local climate. Each spring, inspect outdoor wiring and GFCI outlets for moisture or freeze-thaw damage. Summer is ideal for checking air conditioning circuits and exterior lighting. In fall, review heating system wiring and generator connections. During winter, watch for overloaded circuits, flickering lights, and ice buildup on outdoor electrical components.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Elkins, use weather-resistant materials like THWN-2 wire and sealed electrical boxes to handle the region’s moisture and temperature swings. Copper wiring is preferred for its durability in cold climates, while stainless steel or galvanized hardware resists corrosion from snow and salt. Moisture-resistant connectors and whole-house surge protectors help safeguard your home from frequent storms and unexpected power surges.

Helpful?

In Elkins, basements and foundations often need attention due to moisture from snowmelt and high groundwater. Attics and roofs may develop wiring issues from ice dams or leaks. Outdoor systems, such as service entrances and landscape lighting, are vulnerable to freeze-thaw cycles. Kitchens and bathrooms frequently require GFCI upgrades, while heating system wiring can become strained during long, cold winters common in the area.
