"I was totally impressed with High Quality Contractors.  They walked me through the process when I met with the owner and everything went just as promised.  They arrived on time, did a great job and cleaned up so you'd never know they were here judging from the yard. The roof looks great and they even cleaned my gutters while they were up there!  They told me about an issue with my gutter on one side of the house, which I'll have replaced later on.  I highly recommend them and look forward to doing business with them again.

"Mike from Windlickers is one of the most honest people I have ever met. He helped me navigate the roof process and never once seemed annoyed or pushy when it came to signing the contract or on what I should install. Instead of bashing competitors like so many others do he kept it straight to the facts of what HE would be doing. All around great guy and I will be recommending him to everyone I possibly can that needs any work done. He went out of his way to help me submit my original roof for warranty because of defective shingles. Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Brick and stone are the most durable and longest-lasting siding materials, often lasting for 100 years or more with proper maintenance. Copper is another material known to last over 100 years, though it can develop a greenish patina over time. Zinc is a metal siding that can last 80-100 years. While these options are the most expensive, they offer superior value and longevity. For a more affordable yet durable choice, stucco can last 50 to 80 years in dry climates. Fiber cement siding is another excellent middle ground, offering a lifespan of 50 years or more with low maintenance at a lower cost than stone or brick.

You may only need to repaint fiber cement siding every decade or so, but you should clean it every six to 12 months, depending on your local climate. First, wash with a garden hose or similar low-pressure device (not a high-pressure washer, which can damage the material) to remove dirt and any large debris. Then, gently wipe down the surface with a soft brush or cloth in a side-to-side motion, following the grain of the fiber cement.
