Small jobs welcome

"David did a lot of work for me on a rental property that I bought. This work included refinishing all of the wooden floors throughout the property, installing vinyl tile flooring in a kitchen and back hallway, painting of a couple of rooms, painting of a vintage Kitchen Queen sink area, repairing some plaster wall issues, and repair/replacement of a kitchen drawer fascia. His work crew consisted of himself primarily and sometimes his wife would assist. Grading of the work performed: 1. Refinishing of the wooden floors B This was the biggest portion of the work performed. Though the floors looks a lot better than they did, there is unevenness in the sheen of the floors in several areas and excess poly material left over on several spots throughout the property. I also had to call him back because he didn't put any poly material under the refrigerator in one kitchen. 2. Installation of the vinyl tile flooring B There are visible/noticeable seams in many areas of the floor (Though I had him use vinyl tile squares, I didn't expect to see so many seams). He didn't thoroughly clean the floor upon completion of the job, thus there was a lot of glue still oozing out of the seams on the floor. Also he didn't perform a very professional tile cutting around an area near the baseboard area near the oven/stove. 3. Plaster repair A He did an excellent job in this area of work. 4. Painting the rooms B There were areas of paint splash leftover. Also he didn't completely paint areas like behind the refrigerator and oven/stove. 5. Painting of the Vintage Kitchen Queen sink area A The end result looks very nice. 6. Repair of the kitchen drawer fascia B The front piece he found to repair it was a good match, but the stain didn't match the other drawers to my liking. David is skilled at many things as he proved on my property, but his attention to detail could be improved upon. Also his work hours are unusual. He wouldn't start until the evening hours and work into the night. This made it difficult to assess progress sometimes as I would come to check on the progress after work, only to find out that he hadn't shown up to work on the project yet. Seeing that the project was for a rental property I can live with the workmanship. He also made it easier on me by being able to lessen the amount of people I needed to contract out. But if this was my own personnel residence I would have insisted on a better quality of result. Project took 4 weeks to complete."

Welding questions, answered by experts

Welders use a variety of methods in their trade. Different types of welding are better suited for different purposes and contexts. For example, stick welding is a versatile form suitable for most metals and alloys. The most common types of welding include:

  • Stick welding: $100–$1,000

  • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding: $250 and up

  • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding: $250 and up

  • Gas welding: $150 and up

  • Forge welding: $15–$25 per hour

Yes, but you’ll need reliable steel-cutting tools and safety gear to get started. Shipping containers are typically around ¾ inch thick, so it’s entirely possible to cut through them, but experience and the right equipment are very important. When possible, try to get a container as close to the size you want it as possible.

Yes, you can cut up a box spring., but you’ll need to do so in layers. You can clear the fabric and fluff away to reveal the springs before removing them as well.

This all depends on the tools you have on hand and whether you’re trying to cut a straight line or shapes.

The best tool to use for straight lines is either a circular saw or table saw. When cutting shapes, a jigsaw will be the easiest and most precise tool to use.

Costs depend on unit complexity, labor, wall mounting needs, and additional accessories like floating shelves.
