"They came out to assess our problem immediately on a Sunday afternoon, and got right to work to fix our water damage situation. This quick response resulted in no signnificant damage to our home. When our insurance adjustor came out to the house to look at the damage, they were also here to share information with him to make sure our claim was paid. An excellent job also of cleaning our carpets, and I'm sure we will be calling to have them done again. Thank you for a job very well done! Karla K"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, there are plenty of ways to lay stair carpet without grippers, such as carpet adhesive, magnetic flooring, or staples. Adhesive may be your best bet if you don’t want grippers, as it will most likely stick the best and cause the least amount of damage. However, if you’re looking for an easy fix, grippers are one of the best solutions you can purchase.

Installation typically takes 1-2 days, depending on the area size and preparation needed.

Decent carpet will last around 10 years on stairs. Some less durable carpets, like polyester, will only last five years on stairs. The ideal carpet, like wool or nylon, can last about 15 to 25 years. You’ll know when to replace it when it starts wearing down. You may have to replace it sooner if it's stained, whether due to water damage or pets.

Deciding whether to clean or replace your carpet depends on its condition and age. If cleaning no longer resolves issues, it's time to consider a replacement. Key signs that you need to replace your carpet include:

  • Stains that are impossible to remove.

  • A persistent smell that lingers even after cleaning.

  • An increase in allergy symptoms.

  • The age of the carpet. Most manufacturers state that carpets should last about 10 years with proper care.

When cleaning is no longer effective, you should replace the carpet with a new one or consider other flooring options like vinyl or laminate.

In most cases, carpeting isn’t kind to the wood that it’s attached to. Most carpet installation uses adhesive or nailing strips, both of which will damage wood. Conversely, you can choose to use an adhesive designed to be removed from wood, in which case carpeting can actually protect your hardwood stairs.
