"We contacted Matt to install an EV charger and a ceiling fan. Matt responded right away and scheduled an appointment. Matt showed up at the scheduled time and got right to work. We had previously had Oak Ridge do the electrical for our solar project. Both times work was done professionally. Oak Ridge will always be our preferred electrical contractor."

"I highly recommend Sparks Electric. They recently completed an electrical box expansion, installed two ceiling fans, and replaced two bathroom fans in my home. Blake provided an itemized quote for a fair price before starting the job. His team arrived on time, were polite, and cleaned up after themselves. They also had excellent communication throughout the project. Iâ m very pleased with their work and recommend them to anyone looking for electrical work."

"Great. Joe Zimmerman of AAA Computers showed up on time, knew exactly what he was doing, and even supplied a power cord which was missing from the box the movers had packed the computers in. He went out of his way to make sure things were working correctly and gave me a tutorial on fixing issues by myself were additional problems to crop up."

"Rich Reimer answered his cell phone when I called per his listing on Angie's List.  It was the day before Easter.  He came on Easter Sunday in the morning to explore our issue and provide us an estimate.  Rich was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout the process of estimating and completing the job.  He is proud of the company he owns and works each day to provide professional service and build his reputation.  I was in a hurry to get the project done as we wanted to be showing our home and have everything in order.  We took some time to get another estimate (which came in higher and wasn't anywhere as professional).  Rich returned on Tuesday to sign the contract.  He worked closely with an associate to supervises the project.  His associate worked hard and was as professional as Rich.  We are good to go again given their prompt and professional service.  I would recommend Rich to anyone.

"I just pay $75 you never know who's going to come out. They do everything electrical. Just about everything is covered except the septic tank. I had an air conditioner replaced. It went great, all I had to do was pay for the freon. He didn't charge e more than what was needed."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can splice electrical wires together to make them longer. If you follow the proper safety protocols and match the correct colors, you can save yourself from getting a brand-new circuit and add length to your wires to get them where they need to go.

Yes, but our analogy with the water hose doesn’t really work here. You see, electrical flow isn’t constant: It ebbs and flows like waves, coming in pulses of power. Hertz measures the rate of change in the flow of electricity, or how often it ebbs and flows. For example, 60Hz means that the electrons pulse through wiring 60 times per second. When they are pulsing, they’re in a brief retreat. Almost all United States equipment is rated for 60Hz.

Yes, an electrical fire can start even if nothing is plugged into an outlet. While a correctly functioning outlet poses no risk, a fire can be caused by faulty wiring, damaged outlet components, an overloaded circuit, or other electrical problems hidden behind the walls. If you suspect a fault, immediately turn off the circuit breaker and contact a professional electrician to diagnose and repair the issue.

Knowing if and when your circuit breaker is failing or faulty can prevent costly damage. If you notice any of the following signs, call a local electrician to help.

  • The breaker frequently trips

  • The breaker doesn't stay in the 'on' position or reset properly

  • You hear buzzing or humming noises coming from the breaker

  • There's discoloration around the breaker switch

  • There's a burning smell or visible signs of damage on the breaker

Yes, you can put a GFCI outlet in almost any electrical outlet location. As long as the outlet is wired correctly back to a circuit breaker, you can likely replace the existing outlet with a GFCI outlet.
