About a week before our appointment there were new restrictions due to Coronavirus, so we called Aztec to confirm they were still meeting us the following Monday. Well, Monday came and we waited and waited. Finally called Aztec, and they told us they had no record of any appointments in our city. Very frustrating, because we came from out of town to make this appointment, and our neighbor also cleared his calendar so we could all meet. While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again. 

When your rolls of silt fence join together, you’ll want to overlap them to make sure they’re still as effective at keeping water out without requiring fastening together. Overlap two sections of the silt fencing so that two sheets of fabric cover the span of two posts. If you want to fasten them together, you can staple them or use a zip tie, depending on whether your posts are metal or wood. 

Privacy fences in residential neighborhoods tend to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall, but local building code usually dictates the maximum height. Livestock fences that border large land plots range from 3 to 6 feet. Shorter, decorative fences, which are common in front yards, are around 3 feet tall, on average. Fence height also tends to vary by material, with wood fences usually sitting at 6 feet tall, and chain-link and wrought iron fences tending to sit at half that.

The least expensive farm fence to install is actually a wire fence rather than a cow fence made of lumber. A hog wire fence can be strong, long-lasting, and relatively easy to repair. A woven wire fence also requires less lumber than a wooden fence, reducing the overall cost of your project. However, wire fences tend not to be as aesthetically pleasing as wood fences.

When comparing fence post foam versus concrete, concrete is considered more durable and stronger. Concrete is a stronger material that can handle larger amounts of weight, making it a good choice for load-bearing posts. For posts on smaller fences or fences made with lighter materials, like vinyl or wire mesh, post foam is a good choice.
