"Based on the foundation being brick, there was not the option to add weeps. Additionally in the middle of February, I did not want to excavate the exterior. Therefore the waterproofing was done from the inside. Renew added a rigid board covering onto the foundation interior which will direct moisture downwards to the new drain tile system and now the basement is humidity and moisture free. Very pleasant folks to work with too."

"This year, after six weeks of dealing with a continuous weeping wet finished basement we had enough! In March 2018 we contracted Superior for a full waterproofing of our large ranch home basement. The Superior crew sure knew what they were doing. Totally fixed the problem and were neat and courteous during this trying ordeal. Glad we “bit the bullet” and pursued the project. Since the install, we have had some very large rainfalls and have experienced no water problems. We went on a ten day vacation with confidence and no water concerns. A 6 inch rain storm occurred while we were gone. From northern Minnesota while we were away, we remotely monitored the sump pump performance via WIFI using a iPhone which convinced us the waterproofing investment spent was well worth it. No weepers! This waterproofing project may be the best single home investment we made in since purchasing the eleven year old home in 1982. The equity in our home has increased with this fully warrantied system and remains in affect or as long as we own the home. The warrantee can be transferred to a new owner bringing higher value to a home sale. Talk to Superior and come and see our basement before we confidently drywall the walls and tile the floor. We have already installed a gas fireplace insert with confidence and no concerns about a wet basement. I can show you iPhone numerical sump pump data supporting this Five Star review. Thanks Mike, Ryan, and your honest courteous professional team."

"Kyle arrived timely for our appointment and we had a discussion about potential of water in the basement walls. He examined the interior walls and then we looked from outside the house. To my surprise, he recommended landscaping and grading work - no basement wall repair!! I was impressed by his knowledge, willingness to listen to me explain the history of the house and previous work done, and most importantly, his honesty. I recommend Accurate Basement to anyone who is concerned about dampness or stability of their basement walls - you will get the truth. Dan - Whitefish Bay WI"

"Erie Home Basement Solutions was a pleasure to work with. Everyone was on time, and always polite and courteous throughout this process. This is extremely hard work and they continued to always have a smile on their face and answer any questions I had. They worked diligently to complete the project on time and fulfilled all aspects of the contract. Actually, they went above and beyond to make sure I was pleased with their service, which is unusual in todayâ s work culture. I would highly recommend this company for your basement waterproofing needs."

"First, Bob [Provider Name Removed] took the time to explain all aspects of what is causing the mold in our crawl space. His explanation was consistent with the mold testing specialist/microbiologist we hired. The options for turning our crawl space into a mini basement were in-line with what our microbiologist said. The installation team was great to work with. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and respectful of our property. They cleaned up all the post project debris too. We are very happy with our fully enclosed crawl space that doubles as lock-and-key storage. We highly recommend the entire Basement Repair Specialists team."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Statistics show that 98% of basements will experience some form of water damage over time. However, that doesn’t mean all basements will experience severe flooding. The best way to prevent a water-damaged basement is to keep up with home maintenance and have proper drainage installed outside your home to direct water away from the foundation. You can also consider building a flood wall around the house if you live in a flood-prone area.

You’ll need to reseal the foundation every five to 10 years, depending on the sealant you’ve used, the moisture conditions present in and around your home, and the condition of your foundation. Having a foundation inspection conducted before reapplication can help you catch any problems before you begin resealing. Of course, if you notice any new leaks or other moisture problems at any time, it may be necessary to reseal the foundation sooner.

Due to the nature of basements, some level of waterproofing is necessary to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage. Some definitive signs that your basement needs waterproofing measures or needs existing waterproofing measures need to be updated include:

  • Water in your basement, including damp walls or puddles on the floor

  • Mold spots in your basement

  • Musty smells or odors

  • Warped doors or walls

  • Cracks in walls

  • Insect issues, such as cockroaches and termites

Yes, a crawl space can add value to your home. However, there is a higher chance of it adding value if it is an enclosed crawl space, as this reduces issues caused by excess moisture in the home. That being said, a basement does add more value than a crawl space.
