Got an email the next morning that Chimneys Plus was interested in providing me a quote. Submitted a request & hot a call from Chad maybe 20 minutes later. He explained that he was booked solid each weekday well in November, but offered to come out the following Saturday morning. Arrived right on time, inspected chimney from cap to bottom & cleaned a ton of creosote from the pipe. He also cleaned our woodstove beautifully, including the glass, at no additional charge even though we never asked him to. The price was excellent; quite a bit less than what it seems other area services charge. Chad was also extremely courteous and professional, and left everything immaculate. This was the best service I've received using Angie's List. Highly recommend Chimneys Plus!"

You should clean your panels at least twice a year. It depends on your location. In dusty climates (think the Arizona desert), you may need to clean your panels more frequently. Dust can dramatically impact the electrical output. If you live in a climate with extreme weather, you may want to check your panels seasonally.

Long-handled telescopic brushes are the best way to clean the outside of a house without a pressure washer. There are even special attachments for cleaning the outside of windows. After cleaning the moss, you can use a chemical solution to keep it away. For further protection, trim branches that overhang the roof, as fallen seed pods and leaves on the roof allow moisture to collect, encouraging moss growth. Consider adding zinc-coated flashing to the roof, too. As rain washes across the zinc, it leaves zinc particles behind that inhibit moss growth.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

Vinegar, bleach, chlorine, barley straw, and a bevy of dedicated algaecides can kill algae, which is the easy part. Preventing algae from returning can be a struggle for some homeowners, but keeping the patio well-maintained and clean is a good first step.
