"Lets be clear, the roof did not fail. The customer was offered a more expensive option to pitch the existing roof but declined the offer. There were a couple of code issue as stated, however they were dealt with and corrected promptly. The completed project passed final inspection. There was nothing in our contract about bath exhaust fans. There was a leak shortly after completion which was caused by an ice dam near one of the siding walls. Upon prompt inspection and repair, it was deemed that this was not a roof leak, but rather a siding leak. Customers insurance company agreed and paid the claim through owners home insurance. The customer accepted our proposal willing and knowing that the roof would not be pitched. The project was done according to the proposal specifications and paid in full. Not sure why 6 years later she has decided to file such a nasty complaint."
My initial impression was favorable. I thought they had done good work in a professional manner. But right from the beginning I had issues with shingles slipping and falling. Initially, Paul was responsive - sending someone out to tack them back up. I can't remember how long it was (several years) before Paul suggested that the shingles were defective. Samples were sent to the maker but they disagreed and indicated that the problem was with the installation. They suggested that I have another roofer inspect it but Paul discouraged that and I regret that I didn't have someone else look at it at that time. Several employees from Degenhardt then spent a couple days going over the whole roof. It wasn't really communicated to me exactly what they did but at first it seemed to solve the problem. But, over time, shingles again started slipping. I procrastinated on doing anything about it but this summer I had a few roofing contractors come out. The first two contractors said it looked like the roof was not properly installed and gave me quotes for a complete reroof. Based on this, I e-mailed Paul to see if he would come take a look. I was pleased to get a response back right away saying he would come take a look the following week. That, however, was the last I have heard from him. I e-mailed him a couple weeks later. No response and now many months have passed. I eventually hired another contractor who gave me a proposal to "re-secure & re-seal multiple loose/slumping shingle tabs on & around perimeter steep mansard style shingle roof areas". I imagine I'll need to do that periodically.
