"Overall I'm very pleased with the work John has done. He clearly knows his stuff and held true to his initial comment that if he found something that needed to be fixed, he'd fix it at no extra charge. Unfortunately his guarantee wound up being expensive for him since he found the duct work in my attic was a complete mess and fixed it, which he had not initially planned on. But I very much appreciate him keeping his word and fixing the ducts as well as electrical, venting, and other little things that were messed up. (My house was updated 2 owners ago and while the owner had great enthusiasm for remodeling, had very little expertise, resulting in a lot of unpleasant surprises.)

We had a communication glitch about halfway through the project. Due to some health issues, he didn't come for a few days, nor did he call when he said he would. After we discussed it, John has been excellent about keeping me updated as to when he'll be at the house and what work will be done. His extra effort has been reassuring for me.

The foam insulation John and his crew installed in the basement, crawl spaces, add-on entry way, and attic has already had a positive effect, as has caulking cracks in the walls allowing cold air from the attic into the bedrooms. I have a new bathroom exhaust fan that actually takes air in and is vented out of the house instead of into the soffit which resulted in mold and rust issues. As soon as John has crew available he will blow cellulose insulation into my attic.

John has been fun to work with and his work has gotten me the results I wanted.

UPDATE: It's been one month since I wrote this review, which I wrote before the work was completely finished as a favor to John as he was starting another Angie's List deal and wanted me to mention the work he'd done. It's also been a month since I heard from John. The work that is finished continues to be great, but I have 36 bales of cellulose insulation stacked in my garage. A friend helped me move it in because I needed the parking space. I also have his insulation blower, hose, shop vac, and a bunch of tools, as well as some extra foam insulation laying around my house, yard, and garage. Little did I know when I purchased this house that my 2 car garage would be used to store my contractor's tools and materials!

I have left several voice mails and texts as well as two emails asking John to contact me and I have heard nothing. The human part of me hopes that he and his family are ok. The homeowner part of me wants him to get his butt back over here and finish the last part of the job, or at least call me to tell me when he thinks he'll be able to get here.

John is great when he's here. When he's not here, it's frustrating."

"The furnace took 4 days to get approved( not counting a Sunday) the others were quick but the water heater had to be ordered so without hot water for a week. One ceiling fan was easy but within a year their policy changed and They would not install the one I purchased and had to get a new one approved and then ordered online and took several weeks to get straightened out. Not sure who was at fault, AHS, installer or scheduling with renter. Fee is usually $75 per visit"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.
