"The patio turned out great, custom ramp due to an uneven step to the attached driveway. Wish the cleanup following the project could have been handled better, posts from the old deck and tarp were left sitting in the yard. The project also ended up being completed a few days later than what was stated in the contract. Overall, happy with the service and would recommend again."

Customers say: Quality work

"Kenny was very busy and hard to schedule an install, but well worth the wait. Once the job was scheduled, he showed up exactly the time he said, did a quality job and charged the price he quoted. We are very pleased with the job. It was fantastic. I only went by reviews I saw on this site. I did not have prior knowledge. so happy I went with him."

"S & S Painting & Restoration did a great job. Once we were scheduled They contacted us as to the start date & came out to pressure wash our roof, which they completed in one day.. when the weather was right, they came out to apply the primer & 2 top coats to our roof. They also completed it in one day. We have a large farmhouse with a 2 story metal roof with a few different pitches & levels of roof. They were very professional & meticulous in the spraying of the paint. I would recommend their services to anyone looking for a painting company. We have another couple of buildings that we will be scheduling for next spring. We are very satisfied with their work!"

"This company is wonderful! They return calls promptly and very knowledgeable and informative on snow removal. They did a wonderful job for the blizzard in 2015 and the snow storm in early 2016. Never have I had to worry about guests, the mailman, or any delivery people falling on my property, since they do such a good job! They come early in the morning so that I make it to work on time and the end of my driveway, which is usually the worst part, is always wonderful! I even saw them pull some weeds at the end of the driveway once they were done shoveling - that's how awesome this place is! They don't put regular salt down, it's a different kind of product and it works so well, any remaining snow is quickly melted and I never have to worry about ice. I will continue to use this company every year for my snow removal needs and won't even think about trying someone else!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

To ensure you hire a reliable and experienced paving company, you should start by finding companies in your area that have at least five to ten years of experience working in your neighborhood. Next, rule out companies with poor reviews online or a series of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Since driveways affect your curb appeal, you should also ask each company for references and pictures of recent work to make sure the work the company does is professional and high quality. Finally, check that the company is licensed and insured.

Gravel is the most economical and least expensive driveway material, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. This is significantly cheaper than alternatives like asphalt or concrete. However, it's important to consider long-term costs, as gravel driveways require regular maintenance. You will likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year and regularly rake it to keep it level, which can add to the overall cost over time.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.
