"Scott Brandt did a demolition and hauled away a shed and leveled the area. He showed up when scheduled and did a great job! Also, took down a tree and hauled away and cleaned up after. I would recommend Scott anytime. Fair price and great to work with."

"From start to finish the entire crew led by Brian were amazing!  They were prompt and worked all day and cleaned up after themselves.  They took the time to educate us on what was being done.  I loved their friendly attitude and could not be happier.  Brian even replaced my old bird feeder and put up a bird house for me even though it was not in the contract!  Now talk about Midwest hospitality.  I would highly recommend Hip and Ridge Construction for any future projects!  Todd kept every promise and then some!  We live in Los Angeles and have our vacation home is located up in North Western Wisconsin.  I was blown away with the service and how fast everything got done.  I also know they did an exceptional job because a visiting friend in the same business stated so!  Todd the owner even checked up on us several times just to make sure we were enjoying our vacation and if we needed anything at all!  Talk about A+ service!  They offered us financing and made the entire process easy! We were hesitant about hiring someone to replace our roof and Todd made the process a confident decision!
I also loved how personable he and his crew were.  They are truly a top notch construction crew and I would also like to add I know a thing or two about customer service!  I have served in Law Enforcement for over 20 years now and I appreciate the honesty and transparency the entire staff provided.
Thank you Hip and Ridge for your amazing job well done!  WE LOVE our new roof!  We also felt as though we made new friends which is rare in this industry!

Thank you,
Anne Marie and Robert Reading!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in WI often underestimate the short paving season from May to October and the potential for weather delays. The true scope of site preparation is also a surprise, as clay soils and frost protection demand deeper excavation and robust drainage solutions. Finally, navigating potential conflicts with private utilities like wells or septic systems and adhering to local township requirements are frequently overlooked.

Helpful?

To accommodate future property changes in Antigo, your asphalt paving project should include a base that extends beyond the current paved surface. Using easily modifiable edge restraints and installing utility conduits for future lighting or heating systems is a smart move. This foresight is especially important in Antigo’s rural setting, where homeowners often add outbuildings like workshops or barns later on.

Helpful?

The longevity of asphalt paving in Antigo depends on climate-specific installation and maintenance. A properly compacted aggregate base of at least 6-8 inches is critical to withstand over 100 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Paving during the optimal May-October window is key. For long-term success, you must sealcoat the surface every 2-3 years and perform annual crack sealing before winter arrives.

Helpful?

Your Antigo property might complicate asphalt paving if it has steep slopes greater than 8%, clay soils prone to frost heave, or is near wetlands. Mature trees can interfere with equipment, and their roots can damage pavement. Additionally, narrow lots in older neighborhoods may limit machinery access, while unmarked underground utilities can present unexpected obstacles during excavation and grading for the project.

Helpful?

For an asphalt paving project in Antigo, WI, you should use Hot Mix Asphalt with polymer-modified binders to resist freeze-thaw cycles. Superpave mixes are designed for the area's temperature extremes, while dense-graded mixtures withstand heavy snow loads. A strong foundation is also crucial, requiring a minimum 6- to 8-inch crushed limestone base to ensure durability against the local climate and annual precipitation.
