"Mike agreed by text to come to our place at 3pm for estimate. took a careful look and quoted shop minimum. we asked when he could cut the tree down, and he asked if now would be good. took about 30 minutes to get the saw from his truck, put the tree exactly where we wanted it, and was paid and drove off. same day, perfect results. doesn't get any better that. there are still nice, competent people and Mike is one of them. thanks, jim"

"I had a great experience working with Greg for some stump grinding and highly recommend his company. His communication was excellent right from the start, and he was incredibly flexible when I asked to add another piece to the job at the last minute. What really impressed me was the care he took with safety and property protection. He put up solid barriers around the workspace so flying debris wouldn't be an issue. His pricing is very fair, and his cleanup was top-notch—he restored the area to its pre-job condition and honestly left it looking even better than before he started. Total professional, and I'd absolutely hire him again."

"everything went very well. The trees that we had cut were close to the water pump and our home. He cut the trees and told us where they would land and they landed just where he said. The job was done in less that 2 hours if that. A very good experience and we would hire him again. We would and have recommended him."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.

There are many signs that a tree is diseased or dying, and if you suspect that’s the case, you should call an arborist immediately. You might notice rot or fungus on the trunk or that the tree is beginning to lean to one side. Brittle branches or signs of root damage are other indicators that a tree is in trouble. If the tree is dying, it might be time to cut the tree down so it doesn’t fall.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

It could be anywhere from weeks to years for a dead tree to fall. A dead tree falls based on its weight, how it leans, the state of its roots, the state of decay, and what local windstorms are like, among other factors. Since it’s hard to predict the fall’s timing, it’s important to cut down a dead tree quickly and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Not all leaning trees are dangerous, but they can be a hazard as gravity may eventually cause them to fall. A key factor is whether the lean is new or has been present for a long time. Trees that have grown with a lean for years are not typically an immediate danger, but a sudden lean is a cause for concern as it often indicates weakening roots. If a tree is leaning more than 15% from vertical, you should consider having it straightened or transplanted. To be safe, it's always best to hire a professional arborist to inspect any leaning tree to assess the risk and avoid potential accidents.
