"We hired Francisco to drywall our kitchen which included matching a 1960s ceiling texture where we had removed cabinetry. He and his father did an excellent job. They did a nice job of taping off the area to start with which kept the dust outside the kitchen at a minimum. Francisco worked for four days, kept me apprised of his schedule and checked in with me daily to be sure I was happy with the work. He also primed the work they did on the walls which was a huge and welcome surprise. Francisco and his father were friendly, thorough and a pleasure to work with and we look forward to hiring them for another project in the future. We are SO happy and greatly appreciative. Susan and Brian Carle"

Small jobs welcome

"My husband & I hired Cameron of Camko Construction to replace an exterior front door on our home. Cameron and Shawn did a fantastic job replacing our front door. It was a challenging project which required reframing work to make the door fit on our older manufactured home. He made sure that everything was done right which required a few trips for supplies. Outstanding workmanship! Kudos to Cameron and Shawn for all their hard work. I highly recommend Camko Construction!!! :)"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

In many cases, installing new drywall will boost your home value. Replacing old, damaged, cracked, or wavy drywall is a great way to improve the look and feel of your home, as new drywall installed by a professional shouldn’t have any imperfections. Additionally, removing old drywall means you’ll have open walls, so you can install new insulation and address exposed issues with plumbing and electrical systems running behind the walls. All of these fixes will also add to your home’s value.

The age of your home can clue you in to whether you have plaster or drywall ceilings. Homes built after the ‘70s are more likely to have drywall ceilings and walls, while older homes have plaster. You can also do the pushpin test: A pushpin will go into drywall, whereas it’s much harder to push one into a plaster wall. If you’re still unsure, ask a drywall professional to let you know which type of ceilings and walls you have.

Whether you need drywall anchors depends on your specific project, particularly where you are hanging an item. Drywall anchors are not necessary if you can drive a screw directly into a wooden stud behind the wall, as the stud provides sufficient support. However, since studs are not present everywhere in a wall, you will need to use drywall anchors if you are hanging an object in a location without a stud. For very lightweight items, picture hanging strips can also be a suitable alternative.

Costs depend on damage extent of damage, labor, finishing, and whether mold remediation is needed.
