"The install was supposed to be complete in 2 days. It took 7 and we were left without heat in October for 6 of them. The install was defective - pipes weren't attached and we were heating the crawl space for over a month before my husband identified the problem. We purchased on the premise that the system was eligible for a $4000.00 rebate thru PSE. When paperwork was sent to me to fill out, it qualified for $2400.00."

"Wayne was a lifesaver. Setting up an appointment was easy, in fact he came out to my place within 24 hours of my first call. I recently purchased a 65 inch OLED TV and wanted it mounted above my fireplace. The problem was I only had a couple inches worth of space to work with from the size of the TV to the top and bottom of the ceiling and mantle. Wayne told me he could get it done and he did it. He mounted the TV amazingly, setup my surround sound speakers and even helped program my TV and new comcast box. On top of all that he's also a friendly guy too and told me anytime I need any help or have a question he'd be happy to come back out to help me figure it out. I will 100% be referring Seattle Home Theater Pros to friends when they need help."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Electrical fixes are best handled by a licensed electrician, but it’s possible to release a wire connection on your own. Be sure to always turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker before beginning your project to avoid electric shock. Carefully insert the tip of a flat screwdriver into the rectangular hole beneath the wire. Hold the outlet in the palm of your other hand. Pull out the wire as you apply pressure with the screwdriver.

With AC wiring, which is the kind most likely you’ll find at home, the black wire is “hot,” and the white is “neutral.” The bare or green wire is considered the safety ground wire. If you encounter DC wiring, it’s relatively easy to tell positive or negative wires apart. red wires are used to indicate positive voltage and black wires indicate negative voltage.

Yes, hot outlets can cause a fire. When an outlet becomes hot, it means there’s an electrical problem, such as an overloaded circuit, loose connections, or a faulty component. The heat generated by these issues can cause the outlet to catch fire, especially if it’s near flammable materials such as curtains, furniture, or paper. If you notice that an outlet is hot to the touch, turn off the power to the circuit, unplug any devices connected to it, and consult a qualified electrician for next steps.

In the United States, home outlets support a standard 15 amps, but you can upgrade per outlet if necessary. Most single-family residential homes have a maximum overall amp rating, usually 100 to 200 amps. Very old houses may have less than 100 amps, but that’s rare. Large homes often come with amp services above 200 amps to support modern lifestyles.

On average, the cost to wire a new home ranges from $2 to $5 per square foot. The cost to rewire a house is around the same, ranging from $2 to $4 per square foot. Often, though, new wiring comes with lower overall costs since it’s much easier to access a home’s foundation.
