We are a 'full phase' design/build, custom remodeling company that concentrates on residential and smaller commercial projects. We like small. We like large. It is 20 years since we started as a division of another firm owned by Doug, the owner.
Education and planning make for a great start to a quality project that involves you the customer. We handle almost all trades in house so there are very few if any subs in the way of the job getting done. This saves you time and money.

There are some trades we don't do directly 'in-house' and for those we use partners that we do work with to complete your needs.
Description of Work: The quality of work is great. As expected jobs did take longer than expected and cost more but a big part of that was changes we made and mistakes by subcontracters. Not Doug or his crew. We had a major 1st floor remodel done by Cutting edge and we were so happy with the quality of work that we had them do all three of our bathrooms and have plans for another project in the near future. Doug is honest and trustworthy and I will take that over anything else.

They began with the electrical on April 30 and May 1. They painted on May 2, 3,4.
Description of Work: Electrical work--sconces in bedroom, track light in office, outside lighting.Painting--ceilings and walls of bedroom, office, bathroom Their work was excellent. Where they cut into wall for wiring, they patched so that it no longer noticeable. They moved the large furniture for us and moved it back. Not one drip of paint where it should not be. The contractor in charge, Doug Terrel, was knowledgeable and gave fair and accurate estimates regarding the work to be done.

He's our next door neighbor and he's a general contractor. We've used him many times. We don't know how much we spent on his services. We're not sure of the price. It would have probably been about $50. He's next door and so he was responsive. We use him for everything. We will use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used Cutting Edge Construction. He does all of our house repairs. We last used his services actually this month for insulation.

The owner came out a few times to discuss the project (he claims 5, but I honestly don't think it was that many times...besides, he was doing work at a friend's house only a few blocks away). He seemed expensive, but knowledgeable and experienced. I kept telling him I only had a budget of $15K, and so we had to go through a few iterations of removing services from his proposed contract to get the price down to that. After the last visit, he said he would rework the contract and get back to me. A week went by and he never called me. So I called and left messages for him on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday asking him to call me back. He never did. Finally I called his secretary asking him to call me. Later that day he sent me a semi-nasty email with a revised estimate saying that he had already been to my house 5 times and that if I didn't sign a contract with him the next time he came out, he would charge me $120 for each subsequent visit. He said that by working up a revised estimate and stopping by 5 times, he had invested $1200 of his time!! The next day, his secretary called asking what I thought of his revised contract. I told her to take the painting off the estimate, so I could get the price down to $15K (like I had told him several times). I told her I couldn't work with a person that doesn't return my calls. She assured me that either he or she would call me back. Neither did. I have since written off Cutting Edge Construction. I believe I have a found a much more professional, less expensive contractor with outstanding reviews on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Remodeled large family room in basement.

Response from Cutting Edge Construction Today LLC
2-22-12. Just becoming a member of Angies. Some times there is a difference of personalities and this turned out to be one of those. WE have approx. 3500 jobs under our belt. The time spent on this job was for design and estimating, meeting, travel etc. Unfortunately we at that time did not have a clause that stated the amount of time a free estimate included. Eventually we stated that if a decision could not be made to either sign a contract or not we would start charging for our time which only seems fair after thins many visits. We eventually quit calling this client when they could not make a decision and we made a business decison to stop investing our time and money in this potential project.
