I had called ahead to find out their rates and to get an estimate for the work I needed. Nothing major, couple of small jobs, got an estimate of $135 the first hour, $100 each additional, looking about 2-3 hours with a single electrician. I receive the bill and she has charged me an extra $65 an hour for an apprentice who came out but didn't work! I get the owner on the phone and I'm trying to tell her how upset and shocked I am with the bill I got. She proceeded to start saying "who is this? is this a robot caller?" I went through who I was again. And informed her that i was not paying the apprentice $65 an hour for a young man to be trained on the job standing around and grabbing the occasional hammer. Also, on the occasion they came out, the electrician even left his jacket with his wallet, so I raced home in rush-hour to meet up with them to get his coat for him and he didn't show up for another 45 minutes. She got huffy and puffy and finally said, very sarcastically, you're real sweet and it's Christmas so what do you want? She agreed to mark it down when I explained that I had called, asked for the rate ahead of time was never told there would be a second person, there was no need for. But she did tell me to just call another electrician next time. That won't be a problem.

We had scheduled work to begin (via email- which I looked back to be sure this wasn't my mistake) and I was told THIS Tuesday. So I waited and waited, and no one showed up, finally after an hour (being the first appointment of the day, I figured something had to be wrong). I was told that my appointment was the following tuesday at 7am. So again, that tuesday when no one has arrived (mind you my husband took off work to be home for this) I called to see what the issue was, I was told the tech was on the way (8:22) when 9:44 rolls around, still no call, no one there... I call again. Im told the techs child is sick and he is on his way.... again. Arrives around 10:30 am. Mind you I realize kids get sick! I have a few of my own, but would have been nice to get a heads up so my hubs could have done something other than sit there waiting. When tech arrived, he was professional , I had placed a sticky note to the wall where I wanted the outlet to be placed, however whether it be by the electricians work, or my husband, it got moved or lost, and the outlet got placed behind the vanity.... which he suggested that I cut a hole in to be able to access the outlet behind.... I know he was running VERY late that day and still had several jobs to complete, as we were first on the list, and it was about 3:45 when he left our place, but the medicine cabinet looks terrible with a hole it in, because I needed to access the outlet and couldn't wait to have someone come back and fix this.

The technician did a wonderful job. He was able to install a junction box up in the ceiling that was missing, he cut the sheet rock perfectly and did a flawless install of the new LED light. He also inspected 2-3 outlets which were replaced and replaced a breaker switch in my panel all for the one price. I want to have the same company come and install a separate breaker for my micro wave.

This seemed to be a string of bad luck, poor time management, loaded with stress for me at every turn. When I originally called, Andy came out on March 16th. Parts had to be ordered, but they weren't the right parts for the first visit of the job. They were almost always late for set appointments. Brandon and Jose were on the job with Andy once or twice. When the correct parts came in, Brandon came to do the job on his own (after being out sick). This shouldn't have been an issue, as Andy originally said he could do the job. This was supposed to be a one-day job, and it took five days (and still isn't complete). It seemed to take so long because Andy couldn't effectively manage his subordinates on the work that needed to be done on each job. I had to act as a middle-man between Andy and his electricians, as well as he and the other contractor I had hired to finish the speaker system installation, all to keep the job running. I assumed this would be something that Andy can take care of, but he made me take on that role. Most of the time, I was on my own in trying to figure out where the wiring needed to be run. This didn't make any sense, as I'm not sure the best way to do this. I'm not an electrician. It seemed that Andy couldn't effectively communicate the purpose of the job to the other contractor nor his subordinates. I was continually told, "This is not a typical job." I don't understand why the provider agreed to do the work if this wasn't something they could effectively do. Toward the end of the job, it was apparent that Andy was nervous about the time they had invested for this work. I had even called the main office once to get the electricians back out, but a receptionist who I hadn't yet spoken to snapped at me to tell me the job was finished. I explained that the final outlet wasn't done, and then the tone of the receptionist changed. When I spoke to Andy on June 1, I was trying to get Brandon to come out and finish the final outlet and make sure that the job was done. Andy hung up on me, because I told him I don't have more money than what was estimated for the job, and I think that must have upset him. This wouldn't have been an issue if I was given a written estimate, a signed contract, and a final bill. Unfortunately, I don't have any of that.

Response from PK Electric
The confusion caused by using two contractors to install the new system created this difficult situation for the homeowner. We are willing to return to provide the wiring requested bu the second contractor, and not in our original proposal, at no additional cost to the homeowner because we value our partnership with Angie's List.

Failed in every aspect, couldnt even find the house. They called me up 20 minutes late for an appointment 1 o'clock, that i had scheduled and i took off work. They said they couldn't find the house even thought we verified the address with the driver. I waited another hour and 30 min later and the woman who scheduled with me called and said they still couldn't find the house and the GPS they were using kept going to another address. They'd been here before, how is this possible. I verified the address with them twice, and even told them to use google maps on their phone, she asked to reschedule, i said i would call back if i wanted to to.

IN short, TERRIBLE. Here's the long story...I originally spoke with service dept in Dec 2016. It took some back and forth, but we finally agreed on 1/4/17 for the work to be done. 1/4 came by and went and they were a no show. No call, nothing. I had to call and was rescheduled to following week. Next week comes, and rescheduled again due to sickness. This happened off and on multiple times, but because it takes so long to schedule commercial electricians we just dealt with it. By the time the 1st electrician came, he argued that the low voltage wiring was rated to be in same conduit and left without doing the work. I had to have the garage vendor come back out to verify - he did, and stated that the manufacturer warranty specifies it as well. So back we go, this time we get a 2nd, different electrician to come out. I again explain that we want 6' of conduit wiring split, and that we don't care what the wiring is rated. Electrician comes out, speaks to the first electrician and left without doing the work. In total, we spent 7 wks of reschedules or electrician visit and ended up with no work done to split 6' of conduit. They provided a estimate for 10 hrs of work x 2 electricians for a total of $1800. I called another electrician (Prime), they came out and did the work on the spot in 30min. I literally spent hours more on the phone with PK electricians then it took for Prime to just do the **** work. 10 hrs x 2 electricians compared to 1 for 30min....for 6' of conduit. RIDICULOUS.
Description of Work: I needed 6' of conduit split - the previous electrician put low voltage and high voltage in the same conduit for a garage door opener. The garage vendor said it was causing "crosstalk" and needed to get split PER the manufactur.

Work was done satisfactorily. Because the electrician wasn't here for the amount of time we had paid for, the company agreed for him to return to install the thermostat on our new fan. That is scheduled for Oct. will add more info when job is complete. I am pleased to report that our thermostat for the internal fan is installed. I would like to give kudos to Michelle of the PK Electrical office who made sure we got the service we paid for. Thank you PK electrical employees.

Not great. On first visit a young electrician said I needed new light fixture can and told me to go the wrong place to get a new one. Wasted about 4 hours driving to wrong place and subsequently tracking down the right fixture which had to be special ordered. Initially set the attic fan to too high a temperature without first checking with us. Total time in house about 25 minutes for electrician. Total wasted time for us: 4 hours. Second visit. Much better. After getting new fixture weeks later, I asked PK to send more experienced electrician. They did. Turns out I did not need to have bought a new can, but since I special ordered it and couldn't return it, he installed the new one. More wasted money. Expensive and lots of wasted time due to first visit. HIgh quality second visit from more experienced electrician who could have fixed the problem on the first visit with the existing can.

We saw amazing reviews here on Angie's List, so decided to give these folks a call. We told them that we had a firm appointment with another company on Dec 3rd installing sump pumps to deal with our house flooding issues, so we really needed to get an electrician out to put in outlets and make sure the wiring could handle the load by then - hard line date, could not be changed. We were told that it would not be a problem to get the bid out and work scheduled/completed by then since it was a few weeks out. Getting the electrician scheduled to come out and do an estimate was the easy part - he made it out, seemed knowledgable, gave a great quote of around $300-$400. Great! Let's do this. Trying to get the bid sent out and the appointment scheduled is another story. We waited a couple of days to get the bid so we could sign it (which the electrician said would only take a day). When it didn't arrive, we called and were told "later today" and, the next day, "some time tomorrow". This went on for several days. Coming into November 30th, the bid still wasn't sent to us and we had no confirmation of an appointment other than "oh sure we can do that" during a couple of phone conversations when we called in to ask about getting the bid. My partner called in the morning, was told that our bid was now being put on top of the late pile which was currently being worked on ("Sorry, I'm just so far behind!" from Michelle on the phone), and when she asked point blank about whether our appointment was even scheduled Michelle said "The electrician will definitely be there tomorrow at 10 AM". Ok, good to know. We (finally!) got the bid emailed a couple of hours later, and it was for between $200-$900 more than we were originally quoted by the electrician. Incredibly, the email containing the bid also said that our appointment was definitely tomorrow at 7:30 AM - "My apologies for getting this out to you so late. Please look it over and call if you have any questions. I am assuming that you would like to go forward, but will totally understand if you would like to postpone the appointment to have more time to look things over and ask questions. (I would even understand cancelling all together, but hope that we will be able to help you.) Also - regarding the time, I mentioned noon on the phone but we will be there at around 7:30, so there is sufficient time to do the work." So... 10 AM, noon, 7:30 AM? We'd heard multiple time estimates over several phone conversations asking for a set date and time, which is it? We figured that the time set down in writing (email) was the correct one, and scheduled our work days accordingly. Dec 1st arrives, and there's an email in the inbox from around 6 AM: "Checking to see if you want us today?" Seriously? I responded yes, and settled down to wait for the electrician to get here. I was ready at 7:30 AM - and I'm sure you're shocked to find out that no one showed up. After 10 AM came and went with zero contact from PK, my partner finally called to find out what time we could expect the electrician... and she was told "Oh I think he's working on another job right now, maybe noonish?" (direct quote - maybe noonish). She got a bit upset at this point and asked if there was anyone else we could speak to, and was told that she (Michelle) was the only person in the entire company that we could contact. When asked why that was, she said "I'm the owner". Wow, ok. She said "We are very frustrated, our appointment has been changed multiple times already and we need to make sure that it's actually happening today". And Michelle literally said, and I quote, "Well, I wanted to hear from you yesterday but didn't". WHAT? We'd spoken with her both in phone and email multiple times yesterday, not even counting the many times over the last couple of weeks! Plus, what kind of customer service is that?? We've had to call in ourselves to find out anything throughout this entire process, everything was late and/or not matching the original quote, and now you're going to snip at us when we're telling you that we're frustrated and unhappy? Once the electricians arrived they moved fairly quickly (we're giving PK a C on punctuality for this review because, even though they were really late for our 7:30 time due to odd confusion on the scheduler's part, once we called in and demanded a new appointment time they showed up pretty fast), and the only complaint we really have about them is that one took off before work was completed and the other was about to leave all of the dry wall they'd removed in a pile on the floor. When we asked if he could take it with him as he was getting ready to leave (or even just out of our living space), he said "I guess so, do you guys have any trash bags?" Not very professional. The only reason that we went through with this appointment is because we were jerked around til the absolute last minute and *needed* the work done - which they knew from the beginning, and we're frankly beginning to wonder if this was done on purpose to get us to pay more than what we were originally quoted. The only other option is that they're really not great at handling the back end stuff (quotes, scheduling, customer service, etc), in which case I'd highly recommend that this family business go out and hire an office manager who knows what they're doing if they want to keep things running. I noticed a new Angie's List review that was just posted a couple of weeks ago indicating that other people had the same experience we have, so PK might want to look into fixing this problem fast. Never hiring again, would not recommend to anyone. Also, side note: the work was completed on Dec 2nd, and we still have not received an invoice (today is Dec 7th) so we don't know how much we're being charged. Considering the $900 disparity between the original estimate and the emailed quote, we're not sure what to expect at this point. UPDATE: It is now December 28th and we still have not received an invoice... we still have no idea how much they're charging us.
