"We have a cabin on the Northern Oregon coast which rests at the edge of a steep hill. Over the years, we noticed some settling with sloping floors, sticking doors, and a foundation crack. We called Ram Jack West after the local foundation expert in Clatsop County failed to follow up on a promised bid. We are grateful for that lapse because the folks at Ram Jack West were exceptional in the service they provided us, start-to-finish. From the office staff and estimator to the engineer and the team who set the pilings and raised the house in its low spots, we were kept apprised of each step. Communication was excellent. The engineering that goes into a project like this boggles my mind, but everyone we worked with was so confident and knowledgeable, any anxiety I had disappeared fast. We are so thrilled with the top-notch service Ram Jack West provided us and recommend them enthusiastically."

"I researched 4 companies to fully encapsulate a crawlspace damaged by flooding and rats. I also did a lot of research into possibly doing it myself so i knew what to look for. John's was the most expensive, but they were all in the same general ballpark. I was put off by some of the competitors marking insulation as "extra" and not including in their initial estimate. Insulation is required! John's costs a bit more but you get more too: John's insulated the entire floor with wrapped foam pads, dug a drain trench around the entire perimeter, jacked up every concrete pier to slide vapor barrier underneath the posts, and used proper mechanical fasteners on all of the wall insulation boards. Every nook and cranny was sealed with spray foam. The workers were amazing. They did not cut any corners. They nipped and tucked every tight little spot and never complained or made excuses. They built a plastic clean-tunnel every day and took it down down every afternoon. They did not leave behind trash. My crawlspace is clean enough to literally eat off the floor now. I would recommend John's if you want your job done correctly."

"Brandon and Ryan did an awesome job on my landscaping project. They listened to my thoughts for the project, gave me suggestions then made it become a reality. They were very reasonable and great to work with. They also installed my cyclone fencing. I will definitely hire them again when I need anything done."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Masonry in Longview benefits from annual inspections to catch early signs of loose mortar or cracks, especially after heavy rain. Homeowners should gently clean moss or algae from surfaces and reseal exposed masonry every few years. It’s also wise to check drainage around foundations and patios, as proper water management helps prevent freeze-thaw damage and efflorescence, keeping your masonry strong and attractive year-round.

Helpful?

In Longview, foundations often require attention due to shifting clay soils and persistent moisture. Chimneys and exterior walls are exposed to rain and wind, leading to mortar wear and potential cracking. Retaining walls, especially on sloped lots, may need reinforcement or repairs. North-facing walls and shaded areas are more prone to moss growth and moisture issues, so regular checks in these spots can help prevent costly repairs.

Helpful?

In Longview, you’ll find several types of masonry contractors, each specializing in different aspects of the trade. Brick and block masons handle structural walls and chimneys, while stone masons focus on natural stone features and decorative stonework. Concrete contractors manage block installations and hardscaping, including patios and walkways. Restoration specialists address historic masonry repairs, and some landscaping companies offer retaining wall construction and tuckpointing services.

Helpful?

Be cautious of contractors in Longview who provide vague or incomplete quotes, avoid written agreements, or overlook moisture and drainage concerns. Watch for unusually low bids, requests for full payment upfront, or high-pressure sales tactics. Reliable professionals offer detailed project plans, local references, and explain how they’ll protect your masonry from weather during the wet season, ensuring your investment is well cared for.

Helpful?

Quality masonry in Longview enhances home comfort by providing natural insulation, reducing drafts, and protecting against moisture intrusion. Well-built brick or stone features can help stabilize indoor temperatures and minimize maintenance needs. Outdoor masonry, like patios or retaining walls, creates functional spaces for entertaining and helps manage runoff during the rainy season, making your property more enjoyable and resilient in the local climate.
