"I’ve worked with many contractors over the years, but this team truly stands out. They are always on time, charge very reasonable rates (much lower compared to others), and deliver excellent quality work. Their communication, scheduling, and responsiveness are outstanding, and there are absolutely no hidden costs. Everyone on the team is friendly, professional, and easy to work with. They have done a fantastic job replacing my fence, installing Christmas lights, and cleaning and repairing my roof. I’ve decided to stick with this team for any future work. Highly recommended!"

"Great work. Our fence was in need of a rebuild and Levi, the owner did a great job! He was professional, efficient and detail oriented. Our fence looks new again. I would highly recommend Impact Solutions NW."

"We were referred to Matt/MBA Deck and Fence by a local lumber yard and were also able to see him on Angie's List. He was prompt in coming over to our home over a month ago and seemed knowledgeable about the various brands and types of composite decking materials. Unfortunately even after a number of texts exchanged we have yet to receive the quote now over a month past his visit. We can understand being busy and not able to bid at the time so the professional response would have been to inform us of that fact instead of indicating that he would quote- perhaps even offer later availability. Very disappointing especially since he received a glowing recommendation from a local lumber yard."

"Excellent job cleaning up my yard, weeding, trimming shrubs, and making my neglected yard look great again. The service was prompt and the price was fair. I am very pleased and plan to use them for future lawn maintenance and projects."

"Five Star review for Rafael and his team. Tree(s) completely removed in one afternoon with everything hauled off site before they left. His team extremely hard working, obviously very experienced with tall tree removal. They made a very difficult job almost look easy, a wonder to watch from a safe distance below. I highly recommend Brother’s Landscaping and would hire them again for a difficult tree removal project. M Sullivan, Gig Harbor"

"It turned out OK.  Scheduling was fine and they were very personable.  The additional work however, including the fencing work, could have been of higher quality. The fence gate is also currently broken."

"Travis is the first person we'll call for any home repair or remodel.  Recently we had a situation that required repair - quotes we got from other contractors were ridiculous and would have had us doing much more work and tear-out than was actually required.  Travis gave us a realistic opinion on the work that was required and helped us get started quickly on the repair - he showed up on a Friday night to look at the damage and help us out so we didn't have to wait until Monday morning.

"The job we hired for went very well. I reviewed some of their previous work online and called for a quote. Joseph met with me for a walkthrough and we negotiated a fair deal for the work identified. After I signed a contract, they began work immediately. Their office kept me informed of their progress and always let me know days in advance of the next phases of our job. When the work was complete, I wrote the final check and Joseph and I walked through the job. The work was completed exactly how we wanted and I highly recommend Joseph’s concrete specialist."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

When choosing wood for a fence, consider your budget and geographic region. The most popular and common types of wood are cedar, redwood, and pressure-treated pine. Cedar is a top choice due to its natural durability, resistance to rot and insects, and budget-friendly price. Redwood is another durable, tried-and-true option, though it is typically more expensive. Pressure-treated wood, such as pine, is also a widely used and popular alternative. These materials are readily available at most hardware stores, which makes future repairs and replacements easier. Their accessibility and long-lasting performance make them excellent choices for most fence installation projects.

Privacy fences in residential neighborhoods tend to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall, but local building code usually dictates the maximum height. Livestock fences that border large land plots range from 3 to 6 feet. Shorter, decorative fences, which are common in front yards, are around 3 feet tall, on average. Fence height also tends to vary by material, with wood fences usually sitting at 6 feet tall, and chain-link and wrought iron fences tending to sit at half that.

The ideal distance between fence posts depends on several factors, including the terrain, the purpose of the fence, and the material used. For different types of fences, here are some general guidelines:

  • Wood and Metal Fences: Posts should be spaced between 5 and 8 feet apart.

  • Vinyl Fences: Spacing can be between 6 and 8 feet.

  • Chain-Link, Mesh, or Lattice Fences: Posts can be set anywhere from 4 to 25 feet apart, with 4-10 feet being common for chain-link.

  • Wire Fences: Spacing can be up to 12 feet apart.

You can't build a fence against your neighbor's fence if it touches or is attached to it unless you get explicit permission from your neighbor. Most municipalities recommend building a fence about two feet away from your neighbor's fence to allow access for fence repair and mowing.

The bottom strand should sit between 12 to 15 inches from the ground. If you have a problem with small critters, you can aim for 8 inches. Three-strand fences should be 16 to 19 inches apart, four-strand fences should be 10 to 12 inches apart, and five-strand fences should be 8 and 10 inches apart.
