I fill out Washington State Residential Energy forms for permit applications. I just retired from Pierce County Building dept. and the biggest thing in our reviews was Energy forms being filled out correctly. Upon retiring I moved to Lewiston Id. but with the internet I can work from home Via Email. Get a-hold of me to go over what I need to do the forms and the pricing.

"Great! Scott did a quality job and was very easy to work with. The best part was that he was very clear in his pricing, itemizing every invoice and reviewing it with us before every payment that was due."

Batt & Lear is a family-run business since 1999. We are problem solvers. Our process is to collaborate, innovate, and research. Additional email - [email protected].

"We recently had a pretty negative experience with Batt + Lear. We hired them to install a bathroom and some walls in our basement. Our contract indicated that the work would take 60 days. I understand that projects often take longer than originally projected but it ended up taking 5 months for them to complete this rather simple project. Every time we asked when the work would be completed, Batt + Lear told us that they were a couple weeks away from being done. That went on for months. Not only did the work take way too long, at many points along the way it was of poor quality. My husband spent countless hours documenting the bad work, emailing, and trying to communicate with the business owner about the quality of the work. The owner failed to address these concerns or justified the bad work by pointing to other parts of our 100+ year old house and saying that his crew's work wasn't as bad as the preexisting conditions in the house. When, after months of trying to get Batt + Lear to fix their work, we threw a fit. That finally got their attention and they fixed the work, but after all of the trouble we went through, they offered us no discount or any type of compensation. Batt + Lear isn't cheap but we hired them because we thought we wouldn't have to put in a lot of effort to make sure that they were doing timely, quality work. We did not get what we paid for."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The most affordable way to insulate behind unfinished walls is to install fiberglass batts or rolls. These total around $0.75 per linear foot, with the width matching the gaps between standard studs perfectly. However, it’s important to consider the R-value of your insulation and the climate in your area, as fiberglass insulation isn’t the best in terms of preventing heat transfer. Plus, the most affordable option may cost more on electricity bills over time. The most affordable way to insulate behind finished walls is to leave them up and use blown-in insulation to avoid drywall replacement.

Depending on where you live and the conditions of your basement, you may not need to insulate your basement. Your best bet is to talk to a basement remodeling company to find out what they recommend doing.

Insulating your basement can help improve your home's energy efficiency, but it will also increase the cost of your basement remodel project. The average cost of installing basement insulation is $2,400.

Yes, you should insulate your PEX pipes if you’re wondering how to keep water pipes from freezing. Pipes in uninsulated rooms or outside the house should always be insulated. If you’re looking to save money, you may not always need to install insulation on PEX pipes that are running through interior walls with insulation.

It’s best not to install a radiant barrier directly under insulation because it requires an air gap on at least one side to work properly. Instead, you should install the radiant barrier over your existing insulation to create an air space to reflect the radiant heat.

The type of insulation you need in your home depends on your location, the installation site, and your region’s climate. According to Energy Star, insulation in homes in the Southern United States should have an R-value of between R30 and R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in the floors and walls; homes in moderate climates require R values of R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require an R value of R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.
