"Pro is an important part of their name, and they live it! Protech Environmental is a top notch contractor. We hired them to safely remove vinyl flooring that contained asbestos, after we found them on the WA state Labor & Industries Certified Contractors List. Use this list in combination with Angi before you have any asbestos remediation done. Protech's bid was the lowest bid we received, but that was not the only reason we chose them. Each time we contacted them, they responded within a few hours. We sent Protech and the other bidders questions about their plans for the job, including their workers' vaccination status (they are all vaccinated), how long the work would take, and other things. They responded promptly and completely, and came to the house in advance of the work to make sure they knew exactly what we needed. On the day of the job, they called us several hours before they were to begin, to tell us they had to deal with an equipment problem and would be here about an hour late. They weren't that late, only about 40 minutes. Once they began, they worked efficiently, finishing the work in less time than expected. An important part of asbestos abatement is the clean up at the end of the project, and they did a wonderful job. They did a great job of removing their barriers with only a few spots where their tape took small amounts of paint from the walls. Any staples were removed and the woodwork was not harmed. We are very pleased with Protech's work. We will recommend them to anyone we know and the next time we need a contractor we will look at them first to see if they offer the services we need."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.

Yes, as drywall mud is going to have some uneven spots and bumps after application. Such imperfections are going to be visible after everything dries and even after you paint the wall, so you want to remove them. Learning how to sand drywall, taking your time, and following drywall sanding tips can help you have the best results.

Whether you need drywall anchors depends on your specific project, particularly where you are hanging an item. Drywall anchors are not necessary if you can drive a screw directly into a wooden stud behind the wall, as the stud provides sufficient support. However, since studs are not present everywhere in a wall, you will need to use drywall anchors if you are hanging an object in a location without a stud. For very lightweight items, picture hanging strips can also be a suitable alternative.

Deciding whether to repair or replace drywall can be tricky, but your top considerations should be the extent of the damage and what caused the damage. For instance, if you need to repair a small hole caused by a doorknob that hit the wall, you can safely patch it without a second thought. However, if you have significant drywall damage caused by water damage, it’s best to thoroughly remove the drywall to inspect and repair the pipes behind it before replacing it.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.
