"I highly recommend Patch it up drywall repair! His estimate was fast and affordable. He communicated extremely well, was always on time and professional. He even came over to do a quick repair when he was in the middle of a job just so we could get our tile installed on time. He's a hard worker and did a really nice job doing multiple large repairs to our home working 9-10 hours at a time to finish. I wish all contractors were as good as this one! We found him on Angie's list and we are really happy with his work! We will definitely hire him again in the future!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The two most common types of drywall are ½-inch and ⅝-inch thick white or gray drywall. Most walls are ⅝-inch thick because the drywall is slightly more resistant to damage and it helps dampen sound considerably. It’s also much heavier, which is why most ceilings are ½-inch thick. There are special use cases where you want to use ⅝-inch thick drywall for ceilings, such as between a garage and living space, and the ceiling above a finished basement.

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.

Choosing the right size of wall anchors is essential for a secure installation. The size of the wall anchors should match the size of the screws you plan to use. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the specific wall anchors you purchase. Typically, the packaging of the wall anchors will indicate the appropriate screw size and diameter for a proper fit.

No, rough-in plumbing is one of the last steps before your drywall goes up. This is because essential things like pipe installation require space before other elements go up. After the rough-in plumbing is complete, your inspector will also come to conduct an examination and tell you if your plumbing is approved and satisfies your building permit.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.
