Customers say: Super punctual

"They did a good job. Didn't waste time. Almost everything had to go down a flight of stairs but they didn't complain about it or charge extra. The business owner, Todd, was one of the two guys working (I always appreciate the business owner being on site and knowing how the job's going).

"Big blue removal is the place to go if you need junk picked up. Frank is a very nice honest man he's willing to go beyond what you ask of him. He not only showed up he showed up on time. I have called a couple of different junk removal businesses that never showed up and never called. Frank is ready and happy to be of help. I recommend him very highly. Finally I found someone who will actually show up. I was thrilled!"

"They went above and beyond to remove items left behind by a hoarder tenant. It was a dirty job but they were efficient and careful to not leave any damage to the house's walls, flooring, trim, etc. and even left the floor cleaner than it was when they started! I was very happy with the work that was done and will call them again!"

Garbage Collection FAQs, answered by experts

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.
