Custom Concrete employs 4-5 full time employees and 4-5 part-time employees. The size of our crew depends on the time of year. We do use excavation subcontractors for remove/replace projects. After acceptance of our proposal, we require a 30% down-payment to schedule your project with the balance due upon completion. On larger projects we will provide a payment schedule based on work completed. There will be a $50/hr charge for design services.

"Very poorly. Custom Concrete Contraction (CCC) is both incompetent and unreliable. First CCC is incompetent. CCC installed a carport slab fall 2019 at my home. The slab was significantly out-of square and post bases were not installed level. Rookie mistakes that took two days for skilled carpenters to adjust construction. Second CCC is unreliable. I gave CCC a second chance for installing a foundation and slab for an addition at same property as carport. I scheduled them months in advance. The job was on-schedule and ready for CCC the week proposed. At that time they just disappeared. No contact, no explanation...not even a call back to let me know they were abandoning the job. At this point there are no other concrete contractors available and their incompetence has set the job back weeks and thousands of dollars. There are many competent concrete contractors in the Bellingham area. CCC is not one of them.?"

Decorative Concrete questions, answered by experts

A paver patio will add more value than a concrete patio. Pavers are a more commonly preferred option from an aesthetic and longevity point of view, so most buyers will be willing to pay more for a paver patio than they would for a concrete one. Pavers also don’t require a permanent foundation, so they won’t increase your property taxes. Buyers also prefer lower property taxes, so that will play into the ROI you’ll see, too.

Yes, you can pour a concrete slab on dirt, but only if you follow specific requirements. A wooden frame is a must, and the soil layer used for the base must be wet enough, thick enough, and compact enough to support the weight of the concrete slab. Consult with a concrete contractor to ensure you have the base you need.

Unlike other fence types that require you to set posts in concrete or foam, you only need the dirt you took from the post hole for split rail fencing. Split rail fencing is initially a budget-friendly option. However, it’s not as long-lasting as other fence types, meaning you could pay more on the back end because you may need to replace fence posts or rails that come loose or rot.

When hiring a concrete contractor, you should seek someone with proven experience, proper licensing, and insurance. You should also check reviews online, talk to references, and view past project photos. Remember that reliable contractors communicate openly and have an expert understanding of local building codes. You’ll also want to ensure that the contractor specializes in the specific type of concrete work you want, whether a driveway or tinted concrete flooring.

It’s possible to pour concrete if the temperatures are expected to dip below freezing at night, but you need to take some special precautions before you do. Most importantly, you need to make sure your concrete won’t freeze, so the best thing to do is enclose the area and heat it. You should also make sure you’re using cold-weather concrete that’s designed for pouring in cold weather. Use accelerants to help speed up the curing process and avoid cold temperatures from resulting in weak concrete.
