"Terrible. Paid a large up front deposit and 3 months later they start the job. During demo they cut the cable line for the neighbors because they failed to call 1-800-dig beforehand. Also told us we didn’t need a permit because he had emailed the city back and forth. The city stopped the project because of no permit. When confronted he backpeddled and said it was a phone call to the city by a former employee. (Clearly lying.) My driveway was dirt for a month, he says he was waiting for cable to be fixed. I called cable company who proceed to tell me he was cleared to pour concrete two weeks ago. After a month of a torn up driveway and being given excuse after excuse I finally fired him and hired Hikila Concrete Design (who you should hire) and two days later I had an awesome driveway."

Decorative Concrete questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. Be careful when you’re ready to bolt your flange down, as you can accidentally crack it. You can avoid this issue by not installing the screws too deep. Or, you can opt for a flange with a stainless steel ring so you don’t have to worry about cracking the plastic.

If you're repairing a sagging or falling fence, a concrete base can strengthen the fence against burrowing animals, erosion, high winds, and more. Having a concrete reinforcement slab installed with a chain link fence can cost $4 to $10 per square foot.

Like all concrete, pervious concrete is susceptible to cracking due to expansion and contraction from freezing and thawing or heavy weight. Pervious concrete, however, is less likely to crack due to moisture intrusion than traditional concrete since pervious concrete is designed to drain and hold water in the material’s voids.

If you're only working with a gravel pad, and there is no concrete foundation, you might be able to upgrade to a concrete slab, but you’d have to speak with a professional concrete expert to confirm and get pricing. If you have a concrete foundation or cement block walls around the area where you want to build flooring, you might be able to pour a new concrete floor over the existing one to forgo repairs. Again, speak with a concrete expert or foundation company to see if this is an option.

Yes, it's typically best to set aluminum fence posts in concrete. You can technically use a mix of gravel and soil instead, but concrete is more stable and secure. Concrete also lasts longer and does a much better job of withstanding the outdoor elements than a gravel or soil mix.
