Customers say: Quick response

"My husband and I are new to the area and needed plumbing work done on the home we purchased. We found Michael at My Guy Plumbing through Home Advisor and because of his great ratings, gave him a call. We were not disappointed. He exceeded our expectations! We needed new toilets installed, a septic friendly garbage disposal installed and assistance in getting proper water pressure to the kitchen faucet and shower. He was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He takes the time to explain why and what he is doing. He took care of all our issues at a fair price. He is a man of principle who loves what he does and it comes through in every conversation you have with him. My husband and I highly recommend My Guy Plumbing."

"When I placed the repair request I needed, I immediately got a voice mail from Elizabeth, her message was very easy to listen to, and I didn't have to go back and listen to it again. Sam the plumber came out that day, looked at the jobs requested, and he told us exactly how much it would cost. He was very organized, professional, and friendly. The next day he was out again and was working on it when I came home for lunch, and he finished that afternoon. We are pleased to have new fixtures in our kitchen sink and a new toilet in our bathroom. The best thing is it was done promptly, and we didn't have to wait until next week for the jobs to be done."

Small jobs welcome

"They came right away and addressed multiple issues we were having; including identifying and resolving the large clog in our main drain. In addition, they re-sealed two toilets, fixed the water pressure and drain in our Master Bathroom and devised a plan to hold watch over our hot water tank. Lastky, they assisted our County Sewer District with finding our sewer lids via camera and special tools. They deliver! They care! Thank you for your thorough and professional work. Laueel & Jim Scott"

"I called them because a friend of mine had recommended them to me. He came out and fixed my toilet. Then I didn't think it was working right, so I called them back. They came out and they did some adjusting and it has worked fine. The price was more than I was expecting. But I know the things cost more nowadays. You can't be without a toilet, so they came right out. I kept their card so I can refer to them again. They're excellent. They didn't leave a mess. He came in, he fixed it and left and you wouldn't even know it was broken."

"Altogether every thing went well as noted above. With the exception of the back toilet running, I was pleased. He showed the gunk in the pipes and suggested that I have the pipes blown out but I have to put more money aside to have it done. As

"We called to have a bathroom faucet and toilet installed and repair a loud banging noise in the water pipes and a leak in the water line to the refrigerator. The installations were flawless and the pipe noise and refrigerator leak were accurately identified and repaired. We were provided with excellent service and follow up."

"Great job all around! Called in the morning and spoke with Manny for a gas water heater replacement. He was able to get me squeezed in that afternoon. The job took several hours due to tight spaces and the end result was outstanding! Manny really knows his trade and has a great attention to detail. Cost for this project was very reasonable compared to most. Every aspect of his work was 5 stars and I plan on using Manny and Royal Plumbers for future projects."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Replacing a toilet costs between $275 and $480 in most cases, and the average cost sits around $375. This includes removing the old toilet and installing the new toilet. Your price could be significantly higher if you invest in a high-quality brand, need the replacement done on an emergency basis, or replace your toilet as a part of a larger bathroom remodel that demands additional work.

The main cause of bathroom leaks is seals and connectors that loosen or deteriorate over time, causing leaks to develop. It's important to stay on top of your bathroom materials, as toilets, showers, and sinks all have different lifespans. Toilets and faucets last between 10 and 15 years on average with regular maintenance, but different parts may have shorter lifespans than others.

Most codes require 15 inches on either side of the toilet's centerline (from the wall or vanity) and at least 21 to 24 inches between the toilet and the wall in front of it. These codes ensure that your toilet is easy to use and access, even in small bathrooms. Check your local building codes for the exact measurements required.

The cost to install a new toilet typically runs from $225 to $530. This doesn’t include the price of the toilet itself, which can cost $90 to $1,500 depending on the model and features you choose. You can save money if you choose to install a toilet yourself. However, you might want to hire a pro for this project.

"Due to the many complexities of replacing a toilet flange, it is typically a job best left to the pros," says Jeff Botelho, Angi Expert Review Board member and plumber. "Many times it isn't as simple and straightforward as 'pop off the old one and pop on a new one' because the flange is either glued on (PVC/ABS), soldered on (brass/copper), or caulked in place with a lead & oakum joint (cast iron) and none of these things can be easily reversed without years of training and repetitive practice."

The lifespan of a toilet can vary significantly. While the porcelain body itself can last up to 50 years or more with proper care, most plumbers suggest an average functional lifespan of 10 to 25 years, and many homeowners replace their toilets after about 20 years.

A toilet's longevity is influenced by factors like maintenance quality, hard water buildup, and damage to the finish. It's also important to note that internal components have much shorter lifespans than the bowl; for example, flappers may last only a few years, while fill valves can last around 10 years.

Even if an older toilet is still functional, consider upgrading to a high-efficiency model to save on water costs.
