"Spoke with Jeff who got me what I needed and got the install done right away with no issues. Other plumbers and companies like lowes and home depot either quoted much higher or 2-5 week lead times for my type of water heater or they bid with unreliable water heater brands. Washington Sewer & Pipe LLC got me a great product, installed fast and professionally and at a great price. They save our Christmas season! Highly recommended!!"

"I was able to schedule this job with Puget Sound Gas within two weeks. It was very important that I get the repair done within a month in order to have a new gas range delivered and installed. Neal and Matt arrived on time and analyzed the job. Because the natural gas pipe came up from the basement through the kitchen floor, access to the gas pipe was limited. After some discussion, Matt secured the gas pipe in the basement while Neal removed the existing fitting. Neal then used a Saws-All to cut out a small section of the tile and underlying Hardy board around the gas pipe to allow him to move the gas pipe closer to the wall. Once the gas pipe was moved, Neal put a new fitting on the line and checked for leaks before completing the job. Neal and Matt were friendly, cordial, skillful and very neat. The company has a two hour minimum for each job and this job took about 90 minutes.

"Evergreen was one of three companies I called and, by far, the least expensive and most informative. I was disappointed that the company we usually use insisted on pumping the tanks just to do the inspection which was about $500 more (though, they were not the ones pumping them). Another company insisted that the county would require pumping as it had been over a year since they were last pumped which was completely false (they would have been pumping them themselves) and would have added substantially to the cost of the inspection. Our tanks are of the size that we should only need to pump them every 3-5 years at most and it had only been about 2.5 years. Evergreen inspected and found that there was absolutely no reason to pump them and that everything was fine. In addition their cost of inspection was lower than the others. I enthusiastically recommend them and would use them again in a heartbeat. A big kudos to them for being so straight-shooting and reasonably prices. Not only that, they were easy to schedule with which was greatly appreciated!"

"Our experience with Cascadian Construction was excellent. Joe, one of the companyâ  s principals and head foreman, provided true personal service starting with our first meeting. Our job was not a small one. It was a concrete-only project with an extension to our driveway requiring a 3.5 foot retaining wall, a set of concrete steps off the side of our front porch to ground level (3 steps) to a sidewalk on one side of the house to the backyardâ  s shed and sunroom with steps provided to those entries as well. In addition, on the other side of the house, a sidewalk was poured from the front driveway to the backyardâ  s new addition - a large concrete patio. In our initial meeting we walked Joe through our concept for all this while he made outlines on the ground for the sidewalks and patio. He was extremely helpful with the details surrounding the shape of the patio as we wanted a rounded extension into the yard for a fire pit as part of the patio itself. By the time we finished, all of us were on the same page with the outlines of the concrete additions clearly visible. A verbal quote was provided on the spot with a written proposal emailed to us on the following day. The proposal price was the same as the verbal quote. Work commenced within the week and took one week and two trucks of concrete to complete. The resulting product is perfect. His teamâ  s attention to detail is evident. He provided breakout sections in one sidewalk to access underground utilities around the heat pump and septic pump as a precaution. They had to remove and then reinstall two sidewalk gates and a large set of double gates. The reinstalled gates had to be raised to accommodate the new installations. When completed the gates looked like they were newly installed when the concrete was installed. The crew did an excellent job maintaining a clean site. When the job was completed Joe and his crew had carefully removed all residual concrete pieces and cleaned up the site beautifully - something we were concerned about since this was an addition to an existing home. Cascadian Construction is composed of professionals with 20+ years experience in the industry. They know their product. The provided exactly what we wanted, on time and for a very reasonable cost. We highly recommend them for any concrete project."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, flushing a clogged toilet can make it overflow. While flushing the toilet may push enough pressure through the system to dislodge the clog, this is unlikely. Your best bet is to use a plunger and hope the suction can break up whatever is blocking the pipe. If this doesn’t work, use a plumbing auger or call a pro to help.

If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

If your drain doesn’t have metal crosshairs or crossbars, you should use a tub drain extractor. These tools create a grip on the drain so you can turn it using a 1/2-inch ratchet drive, drain key, or wrench. Your drain may not have crosshairs if it's old and broken.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.

If you try a drain snake and various DIY methods for unclogging drains to no avail, bring in a professional plumber to assess the situation. Also, if multiple drains in your home are backing up or you smell sewage, a visit from a plumber is best. You can expect your drain cleaning costs to fall around $250, and this can include an assessment of what’s caught in your plumbing and if there’s a larger, underlying problem. You should also consider calling a pro if you need to snake a toilet, as DIYing this could lead to a cracked fixture.
