"The owners are very professional and easy to work with. They were on time and completed the project in the time frame they provided us. They refaced the cabinets in our kitchen and both bathrooms and we are very satisfied with the work they did."

"We are senior homeowners who need help with odd maintenance and moving jobs. Jose contacted me immediately when I asked for a quote - some of the other contacts never got in touch. He came to our home that day to see what we needed and assess the need - and then he patiently waited two weeks to do it, rescheduled because we were ill. When we finally did meet, he did an excellent job in a very short time. We are already talking to him about another job. If you need someone with good skills and a great work ethic to help you with essential jobs you can no longer do, call Jose."

"We did about a week of demo ourselves prior to James and his crew coming in at the end of June 2017 to do the rest of demo and start repairing our awful sub-floor. Our house has a lot of quirks and likes to throw curveballs at us so we knew it was possible that things would go wrong - especially with putting in 1400 sq ft of heated tile on a very uneven and no where near close to flat subfloor (we could plainly tell from the hills in our previous hardwood). I am thrilled to say that James' team repaired the floor wonderfully so that our dream floor became a beautiful reality! We have three small kids so with such a large remodel, we planned to go out of town for a month during the project. We were very comfortable leaving our house in the crew's capable and trustworthy hands (we had "tested" them out in January 2017 for a smaller project to fill in the sunk-in living room and update our fireplaces). When we returned home for the remainder of the project, all the guys were great with working around our family and the kids even ask when "the guys" are coming back. Of our approximately three month project, the tile installation was the longest (and most expensive) part as it was very time consuming and a huge undertaking. With such a big chunk of change going to one aspect of the project and not having known the quality of Yuriy and Paul previously, while having seen others have such a crappy job done with simple tile-work, it was a big leap of faith to just trust James instead of do extra homework to look into who was going to do the work. James was right and after that we pretty much went with what James said as we were able to consider him a trusted adviser. Needless to say, Yuriy and Paul are great tilers and did an amazing job! The kitchen got the update of my dreams and is the clean, modern and sleek kitchen we had hoped for. While there were a couple of bumps, there was nothing James couldn't remedy and was always happy to make it right. Also, he had to deal with my picky detail-oriented self which he did without complaint, in fact was always happy to meet my silly little nit-picky requests. Our three bathrooms (one with a new tub/shower combo, one with double sinks and giant glass shower enclosure, and final small kid's bathroom with shower that just got an update to cabinetry) look stunning with more cabinet space for storing toiletries and clean counters with undermounted sinks - finally!) I really couldn't be more thrilled with the skill, competence, communication and finished product of our renovation by Cox Custom Remodeling. We are hoping for phase three in the upcoming year which will have James and crew working on the exterior of our house and building out a new entryway and covered living space if all goes to plan!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

There are three primary ways to attach upper kitchen cabinets to a wall, and installers may use more than one method at a time. The most common method is to drive screws through the back of the cabinets and into studs in the wall behind. Sometimes cabinets are glued to the wall with strong adhesive. Often a combination of screws and adhesive is desirable. The last way is by hanging the cabinets on hardware brackets that attach to the wall before cabinet installation.

As a homeowner, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your cabinet installer. Once the cabinets are ready for your home, you can do the following:

  • Ensure pets are safely in another room, out of the way of open doors and large moving objects.

  • Clear countertops for removal.

  • Tidy the floor the installers will walk through and around.

  • Prepare to have the installers in your home for the entire day, for multiple days, until the project is done. Expect to have a noisy environment, especially if they will remove old, existing cabinets.

If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.

In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.

There’s no strict rule about which way cabinet doors should open, but generally, double cabinet doors should open away from each other. With single doors, you want to avoid having them block your path or swing into  areas where people need to stand. Some kitchens are angled so that cabinet doors may crash into something no matter which way they swing, but the methods above can help prevent damage.

Typically, a medicine cabinet should be installed about 60 to 72 inches above the floor. This height ensures that it's easily accessible for most individuals while allowing for proper visibility and convenience. However, the ideal height may vary based on individual preferences and the average eye level of the users in your household.
