"They did a great job reupholstering our outdoor chaise lounge chairs. Happy with the color and the refreshed look. They even rebuilt / repaired some structural issues that they found, including a broken foot piece. They were upfront with things that they could not do, such as do a similar zig-zag baseball stitch around the edges, as that required a specific machine that they didn't have. Still looked great afterwards. Highly recommend. Turn around time was relatively quick, about 2 weeks."

"Joey is a creative artist and master craftsman at re-upholstering. I too was trained in this work and used to do all my own when younger, but no longer have time to do it...so I know quality work and how it is done. He did wonderful work on a leather and fabric sofa and overstuffed chair, as well as 8 high-back dining table chairs. My fabrics had intricate patterns and he expertly matched the seams, and creatively laid out the patterns to enhance the overall appearance. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Joey is also super professional, communicative, and great with follow up. The price was also affordable. I highly recommend him. I noticed on his website that he also does custom motorcycle seats, canvas covers for recreational vehicles, etc. Check him out. Love, Love, Love his work."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

It is usually worth repairing leather furniture, as it tends to retain its value, provided you care for the material. A typical repair for leather furniture will cost about $250, which is significantly more affordable than replacing the furniture entirely. Even if you spend toward the upper end of the typical cost range for a full reupholstering—around $4,000—you’ll still save money over replacing it. Of course, the quality of the leather and the piece of furniture matters. Consult a leather repair professional about whether it’s worth repairing your leather furniture.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

You should consider the time needed to clean and prepare your bedroom set for transit. A few days before moving, vacuum, dust, and clean your furniture with a mild cleaning solution. Depending on the movers and the services you pick, you might need to pre-pack the mattress and box spring in boxes designed for beds and disassemble some furniture by removing doors and hardware. Finally, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures documenting the pre-move condition in case you need to file a claim.

Although it’s not standard, many upholstery professionals offer warranties on their workmanship, typically ranging from six months to several years. However, most warranties don't cover normal wear and tear, damage from spills and other accidents, or problems with the original furniture frame. Before starting your project, be sure to ask about warranty terms, what is covered, and any exclusions.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done
