Soft and light colors are more common in bathrooms than dark colors, partially because they create a larger sense of space. Clean eggshell paint walls or other neutrals like beige and gray work. By tackling the stairs first, you reduce the risk of damaging painted walls and can more easily tape off and protect surfaces during painting.

Painting over stucco could be a good idea if you’d like an entirely different color for your home or if your stucco is largely cracked and faded. Painting also helps prevent moisture from entering cracks, which could lead to mold and mildew growth. Depending on the paint you choose, you may also add an extra layer of waterproofing to your home when you paint the stucco.

The main difference between limewash and paint is their chemical makeup and ingredients. Limewash is made from lime and water, which is more breathable than the ingredients in paint, which is made from a combination of plastic, acrylic, or latex. Because of these ingredients, limewash is more transparent than paint; it also only appears as white, while paint can be mixed into an endless number of different colors and shades.

In many cases, you can sleep in a room painted with low-VOC paint on the same day you painted it. You’ll want to give it at least 10 hours to allow any lingering chemicals to dissipate. However, it can still have an odor for about a day after painting, so you may want to add extra ventilation or adjust your sleeping arrangements if you’re particularly sensitive. 

No-VOC paint is generally odorless and won’t emit toxic chemicals, so it’s even safer and more comfortable to sleep near after a fresh paint job.
