"We hired Cody to do some wallboard repair and to replace 4 interior Luan doors with 4 standard Masonite slabs in existing pre-hung door frames. The wall repair came out great, but the doors turned out to be well beyond his skill level. A carpenter friend had measured and delivered the doors to us, but he became too busy to do the work so we hired Cody. Surprisingly Cody claimed the standard doors were 1/8â too wide and too tall, and that both the width and height had to be trimmed. We questioned him but trusted his â expertiseâ and relented. He wound up cutting off so much of the width and height that we are left with visible gaps between the doors and the jambs. And because the barrel of the doorknobs did not reach the strike plates, he "fixed" his mistake by â doubled upâ two strike plates on each door so three catch - the fourth still doesn't. In short, he ruined $400 worth of doors, which have to be replaced â and installed â by a competent contractor. Cody refuses to discuss a solution, claiming that he warned us that trimming the doors would be problematic, and blaming us for telling him to cut the doors â all of which we vigorously deny. He was the one who suggested the â fix,â and we trusted he knew what he was doing. It wasnâ t until he was finished that we saw the horrific mistakes and that his workmanship was abysmal. Weâ ve never written a bad review but cannot recommend Bartonâ s Perfection if you need carpentry work. His work was far from â perfection.â"

As of 11/13 I am back in VT having completed repairs to friends, family and others in FL and will be taking on projects here in VT again. I am scheduled back in FL for a couple of weeks in February to do some site work for a new build but plan on being in VT until Dec 25. I provide, Carpentry, decks, painting, vinyl siding, window & door replacement, flooring, concrete work & repairs. From new to repair services to renovations. I am a trained Mill & House Carpenter, Graduated from BVT in 1984, after a 2 years active service I returned home to the reserves and began my Construction Career. I have overseen projects up to $100million in value, in 2016 I/we started a new venture of buying and re-habilitating campgrounds in GA & FL. I am now semi-retired and decided to provide quality affordable small construction services. In the very near future I will be providing certified home inspections as soon as testing is completed. If you have a project that needs to be done, give me a call and we can get it done. If you decide to paint over wallpaper, it’s important to prep the surface with an oil- or shellac-based primer. This helps prevent moisture from creating bubbles loosening the adhesive. Plus, a primer helps paint attach to the wall smoothly and securely. Use quality oil-based or latex paint to cover the wallpaper. Be prepared to cover the wallpaper with two coats for maximum coverage.

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it’s not always ideal. If the wallpaper is firmly adhered, has no bubbling or peeling, and isn’t textured, you can try to prime and paint over it. Use an oil-based primer to prevent the adhesive from bleeding through. However, if the paper is damaged or loose, removal is the better long-term solution.

When done correctly, a roller or paint sprayer can be used to paint stucco. Rolling paint works well on smaller projects, while a sprayer is more efficient for larger jobs. With some practice, a homeowner can rent an airless sprayer to paint stucco, but a larger job may be best done by a professional painter. Smaller areas are more manageable for the DIY homeowner.

While flat and satin finishes are ideal for garage or front doors, siding, and trim, gloss and semi-gloss are more common on shutters. That’s because these types of finishes highlight this proportionally smaller exterior home feature, adding both contrast and layers of texture to the overall facade. Other types of finishes aren’t off limits, but you’ll have more success by choosing one that provides a nice sheen. 

You can hide wallpaper seams when painting by applying joint compound over them and then sanding thoroughly until smooth. You’ll want to apply two layers of compound, allowing for four to eight hours between coats. Do a light sanding between coats and then after the final coat is dry. Once the compound dries completely, you can begin priming and painting the wall.
